Poor Quality right out the gate. I wasn't expecting top quality but it was below expectations for the $50 price tag. The valve was a little stiff but functional before and after assembly but once I put liquid in and attempted to turn the valve the handle snapped off. Wonderful Idea with lazy implementation.the top and bottom threads would benefit from a lip of some kind to prevent overtightening which seems to also be an issue based on the other reviews of stuff breaking. That could have contributed to the valve not opening and handle breaking off. The mold seams are very rough and I'm a little worried about it leaving a porous area inside to gather bacteria so I will not be using this on a batch, but since it's already full of must and I don't have another vessel atm, it's not leaking, I'll let this primary go through while I get something else to use for secondary. I think a better valve would also go a long ways in this construction. The valve is likely the most expensive piece of this item and also the most important to make it innovative.

These are great fermenters. I have (4) of them and they work great. I hesitated at first because of the valve breaking; you have to know how to use your tool. Make 10 wraps of the provided teflon tape, it will seal the valve to the tank. The valve breaks because people tighten the leese (sp) jar fitting on the bottom to the valve. If you examine the valve, there is a round O ring with 2 cross hatched grooves. That circular piece turns with the help of the valve handle that comes off. The valve handle has a long groove on it to act as a screw driver. You can use it to turn the small round fitting that holds the o-ring seal and inner teflon seal in valve .With that out of the way, when you screw on your leese jar on it (see picture with hand), the dry o-ring on the valve end that turns, will seal against the fitting. As the fitting makes a seal, it grabs the o-ring and turns the inner circular part (with cross hatched keys) in the valve, tightening it against the ball valve inside. When this happens, the ball valve will be very difficult to turn with the red handle when re-attached. Just be aware this happens, DONT GET LAZY AND TRY TO TURN THE VALVE OPEN. If the valve doesn't turn, you have to remove the fitting that holds the jar (you will have to anyways when dumping leese) use the handle "key", put it in the valve seal cross hatch and loosen 1/8 or 1/4 turn. Put your jar fitting and jar back on or the other hose fitting if your dumping, re-attach the red handle and turn the valve with ease. Do not force it if the ball valve is tight. IT IS LIKE AN ABS PLASTIC...ITS BRITTLE... It will break. The good part with the valve having the capability to be disassembled this way, it allows you the ability to clean it and sanitize real good. Use as super small amount of food grade oil/grease in the valve, apply to the white inner teflon seal ring side only (inside of valve). You could grease the o-ring, but it will not keep it from turning when tightening the fitting below.Happy brewing!

I hate giving bad reviews, but I love the product concept. I’m a valve technician and know what I’m looking at in a valve assembly. This valve is not only the wrong choice for this product, it’s laughable as even a child’s toy for plastic components. The valve came seized and inoperable in the package. Had they sold me just the conical with the lid for $20, I could acquire the valve and other components for less than the total cost of this product as a whole working unit. I can’t see the conical plastic being worth more than $20, and the valve costing any more than $25 retail for a high quality pvc valve that would function for years. At scale, with a properly designed valve, this unit could be produced with 10x the quality and still be sold at $60-$80 for an immense profit. Sadly, this is not currently the case. The plastic is more brittle than pvc that’s been sitting in the sun for years with no protection and the internal valve assembly is poorly designed with sub par internal components. I’m keeping the conical container because I can purchase the proper working parts at much higher quality for an additional $10 at the hardware store and make a working unit to tinker with. Hopefully the plastic container itself will hold up. Sadly, I won’t be buying the 7.5 gallon fermenter as it is more economical to just pay double and get a stainless steel unit.I’m hoping the company sees my review because I believe this product can be elevated from just another plastic gimmick to a quality brewing product with minimal design changes. The valve has got to be redesigned to operate smoothly and be made with quality plastic. The integrity of this product hinges completely upon the integrity of the valve assembly. Smooth valve operation with low friction and watertight internals is absolutely crucial for this. Especially in a plastic valve. Good luck.

Have been using a 3 gal. Fastferment for a few years ... the quality and design for this value need no adjustments ... the design has not changed. Easy to clean, durable and highly functional for a small fermenter ... thx.
