I bought this Ferrocerium rod to carry in my Benchmade Bushcrafter 162 knife sheath. It works very well and it fits my sheath well enough however I keep the rod’s lanyard snapped to the sheaths snap closure to assure it doesn’t come out or get lost from the sheath during carry. Be sure to remove the black coating from the rod before use in order to expose the rod for effective strikes anywhere on the rod. I used 220 grit sandpaper and getting good sparks and strikes was very quick and easy.

Molto bello e funzionale ma secondo me il prezzo è eccessivo per quello che fa soprattutto rispetto ad altri, dovrebbe costare 15 euro in meno

This is the best ferro rod on the market. I have purchased many fire steels and this is perfect. Waterproof storage for tinder, or small fish hooks and line in mine. I read a negative review, about how small it was. Not sure what that guy bought, but mine is the perfect size. The picture shows how big it is in my hand, and I wear large sized gloves.

Sehr guter Feuerstahl. Genau die gleiche Länge wie ein Victorinox Huntsman. In dem verschraubbaren Deckel kann man ein wenig Zunder mitnehmen. Mit dem Schraubgewinde lässt sich der Feuerstahl problemlos austauschen.

Excellent Ferro rod. I'm very pleased with the quality, design, and construction of this product. Two really cool things are it has a compartment in the handle to store things, like fire starting material or water treatment tablets, and the rod itself unscrews from the handle so it's easily replaced with the standard 2.4" length rod or you can get an extra long 3.1" rod.

Great fire sparker fire steel fire striker fire match ferro rod WHAT EVER you wanna call it. It is well made, works good throws sparks every where likes its supposed to,made in MURICA and has a compartment in the top to keep some tinder quick cotton or the like. Its sealed with a orange washer and they even give you a spare one, very nice of them. Great quality. Will buy more.Oh and you can buy replacement ferro rods when you use it up.

Top notch firesteel ! Superior quality. The capsule part of it is made of aircraft aluminum and will hold a tinder quick or a half of a cottonball . It comes with a spare o-ring, so you can have confidence that your tinder is not gonna get wet. The firesteel is a good quality ferocium rod that is not soft like the cheap ones , which will last ALOT longer. Throws showers of sparks and is easy to operate. Has textured grooves on the outside of the capsule for a good grip while striking. When you do use it up , just get online and order the replacement rod. One end is threaded so you don't have to buy a whole new unit . If your looking for a good quality firesteel that you can rely on when the shtf and your life is on the line, then look no further. Great product you can depend on.

I am very pleased with this item. The quality of the construction is excellent and the details built into it are very smart. There are two main features that stand out. The first is that the Firerod has a small watertight capsule that will hold enough tinder to get a fire going. I have a small piece of fatwood wrapped in a length of jute twine. Second, the ferro rod portion unscrews from the handle and can be replaced. The replacement rods can be ordered from Exotac and are reasonably priced. I ordered a larger size rod and kept the original for practice and as a backup (I uploaded a photo with the original rod next to the larger size rod that is available). It fits great in the ferro rod loop on my knife sheath and that means it's always with me when I'm in the woods. These things are a bit pricey, but for what you get, I think it's worth spending a little extra.

The rod works well overall. It throws a lot of sparks and due to its thickness, will last a long time. Only reason this product does not get 5 stars is because I seem to have received a promotional version of this firerod. It is not the color I ordered (I ordered olive) and is instead closer to the gunmetal version. It has an orange seal (different from the picture of the gunmetal colored version on amazon). Also, it has a logo on it in addition to the Exotac logo that says "Habilis Bushtools". This is a little disappointing, because for what these things cost, you'd think they would send you the correct piece of kit.Overall good quality ferro rod, very good. It seems like someone just wasn't paying very close attention to my order.

Pros:The quality of machining is very high. The user replaceable firesteel threads are sharp and well cut.The capsule is exactly the right size to hold one Tinder Quik impregnated cotton fire starter. It comes in a very nice little box that would make it a nice gift to present to someone.I was almost exactly what I was hoping it would be.Cons:Price is just a little high, compared to other firesteels. (But you do get what you pay for, in this case.)The rod is 5/16" instead of the more common 3/8" firesteel loops sewn into many custom knife sheaths. The material left for the 'hole' in the cap that makes up the lanyard retainer seems far too thin to withstand much abuse.Overall:Excellent example of American craftsmanship. Highly recommended.***Please note that all ferrocerium firesteels require experience, skill, and practice to use correctly. Just like a musical instrument, don't assume you'll be an instant virtuoso the first time you try to use it.
