I've been needing one of these for years, so I'm excited to have it. It works on my rav 4 extra wide rubber hangers (could be a tad larger, but this is a standard size tool) so its pretty universal. Welds are what you would expect, nothing to write home about, but so far nothing wrong with them either. Honestly even the brand name exhaust pliers probably have the same welds and this unit costs half as much. If you have been doing rubber exhaust hangers the hard way for years, upgrade to this. Don't forget a little lube goes a long way for putting hangers on or taking off.
