Ever Ready First Aid Tongue Depressor

A tongue depressor, also called a spatula, is a tool used mainly in medical practice to help examine patient’s mouth and throat. Our spatulas are made of high-quality wood with smooth polish and edges. Besides the medical field, they can be used for crafts, mixing, beauty procedures, food making, etc.

DR PHOTO

The size and sturdiness of our tongue depressors make them ideal for medical use. Tongue depressors are mostly used to depress the tongue to allow for a more thorough examination of a patients mouth and throat.

These will do the job marked on the box. They seem small to me, more like a large popsicle stick than the tongue-depressors I remember. They are basically a 5-1/2" x 9/16" strip of birch veneer 1/16" thick (140mm x 14mm x 1.5mm). They have a slight curve across the short length which is no doubt because they are formed by a continuous slice along the perimeter of a round log while it rotates axially under the cutter, kind of like shaving the growth rings off one by one. That produces a curved sheet and the curve stays in. Still, for pushing down a tongue that won't matter. For some craft projects it might. They are also a little splintery, not finished on the edges, so best to be careful while handling and using. These are each a bit of a struggle to get out of the wrapper, so If I were buying for a craft project I think I'd avoid this sterile variety. Otherwise I suppose they're good enough.

If you have kids and have ever asked them to open their mouth wide and say ahhhhh so you can look to see if their throat is red or spotty when they are sick then you probably know most of them do not know how to keep their tongue out of the way. This solves the issue without trying to bootleg something else as a tongue depressor and then needing to clean. These are made for that purpose and you toss out when done. Also handy to have around for random art projects.

I got this to use for a bunch of things, primarily for when I'm sick or dealing with a respiratory infection. It's hard for me to keep my tongue down flat and inspect my tonsils. I also will be using some of these for arts and crafts, and the remainder for homemade Popsicles. You get a lot in this little box, it's a great value and I'm beyond pleased.

We'll probably use most of these for crafts with kids, mixing epoxies, or other random uses for a sliver of wood. We MIGHT use one occasionally as an actual tongue depressor - so it's nice that they are sanitary. The quality seems fine for what they are. The box they arrived in was a bit crushed, but not a big deal in this case. Pretty sure these are much cheaper per piece in higher quantity, but we also don't need to store 1k+ of them around the house either. Good buy for general usage!FYI: I received this for “free” as part of the Amazon Vine Voice program but will still pay income taxes on the value of it, kind of like a contractor.

Got these for the wife and her many crafts so the individual wrapping is a bit overkill but still it is a nice touch. Opening the box I was at once reminded of an oversized band-aid box where all you see are the paper-wrapped edges. The sticks are smooth with no rough edges and for my wife's craft activities, they are perfect. Very nice craft sticks.

I haven't encountered any splinters or rough spots on these tongue depressors, but a taste test finds them to be very bitter, which is not what I want in a tongue depressor. They are well wrapped, and will be ok for crafts, or for medical applications that don't actually involve a tongue.

There's really not all that much to say about these. They're sterile popsicle sticks. These are typically used to make it easier to assess the back of the mouth and throat. These do a good job at it and for a decent price. You can get them cheaper if you buy them in bulk from other brands but if you only need a few, this is it.Other than using for oral assessments, they're pretty handy to keep in your first aid kit. They'd work as a finger splint in a pinch. You could also use this to make popsicle stick art in a sterile environment if for some reason you found yourself in a surgical gallery with nothing to do

I am not a doctor, but I am a mom whose daughter often complains of having a sore throat. When I try to take a look and see if things look like we need to schedule a dr’s appointment, her tongue always gets in the way. Having these tongue depressors on hand has helped me out tremendously. I can now see her tonsils and whether they are swollen, have polka dots, have turned orange, etc. I can better reassure her (“Well, I think you were just screaming on the playground a lot today and your voice is tired”) or let her know to rest up, get plenty of fluids, and we’ll head to the dr tomorrow.
