Designed and built for heavy-duty use, this hammer features a 4 lb. forged alloy steel head that is case hardened and then tempered to reduce it's striking end hardness to within 30-35 HRC. The resulting softer head helps it mushroom when striking harder materials and thus prevent damage to struck objects making it ideal for projects where a regular sledge hammer would seriously damage or break the struck work piece. The head of the hammer came off after 2 weeks of use. The epoxy at the top is no good. Extremely dangerous product. Very unhappy

I have a ton of Estwing hammers, and my 6yo niece has suddenly decided to be a geologist, so I got her a few hammers and chisels. She can barely pick this one up, but loves to drop it on a rock. From an adult's perspective, it's got great heft and balance. In a decade or so when she's taller than it, she's really going to like it.
