I bought this as a beater / traveler....mainly to have it out on the stand at all times. I have better Mandolins that live in the case. I possess the skill and tools to improve this instrument , in whatever it needs to get it playing and sounding good , without spending any money on it except for better strings. You will need to set the intonation on this one , after sanding in the bridge to sit properly to the curve of the top. This is easy to do...look it up on YouTube . All in all the build quality and tone is just fine for the price of this mandolin . If your a beginner , and do not posses the skills to make it nicely playable...take it to someone near you to do a proper setup with new strings .I think you will be happy with this Epiphone in the end.

Beautiful and well made.

It definitely sounds like a mandolin. Unfortunately, the fret spacing is so inconsistent that the intonation up the neck gets worse and worse. Unplayable. For this price, you can get a quality instrument second-hand. Save your money!

Although this is my first mando, I've had many guitars, and a uke, and I believe the Epiphone is solidly built for the price. It exceeded my expectations. I couldn't find any of the workmanship issues you come to expect with a beginner or budget instrument. It came pretty well setup too (but that, in part, is most likely thanks to the great seller that sent it to me). The worst thing I found about it is that the fret edges felt quite sharp when I first grabbed it, but it hasn't actually bothered my during play.

Rubbish tuners on this Mandolin, very loose and then suddenly very tight, certainly not a good experience for a beginner like me

First you will need to install bridge, setup, and then tune. It is a nice instrument though, should give many hours of enjoyment to our friends.

This mandolin is worth every penny. I have played the mandolin for about 30 years, and gave away my old one to a dear friend. I ended up buying four mandolins on Amazon, but nothing could replace my old beloved instrument until I found this one.A few things on this mandolin:- it arrives with the bridge separated - you have to put it on. It is quite easy, and there is a lot of information out there.- aesthetically, the mandolin looks nice. All the parts are sharp, clean, well-made.- the strings are spaced just right.- the bridge is adjustable for a lower action. One detail about the bridge that is often overlooked is that it stays in place and does not tilt forward as you increase the string tension. This actually is important because it maintains the tune.- the keys are smooth, holds well, with a mechanism to hold the tension when you turn it up, but does not loosen up immediately when you turn it down - it is designed to keep the strings in tune.- the sound is bright, clean, and all the frets make clean sound all the way up.Overall, I am very happy with this mandolin for this price - it will definitely stay with me for many more years.

I bought one of these over ten years ago- a fairly rare BLONDE finish version with an electric pickup under the saddle. It's worked beautifully for me all that time. I think it's funny when people assess an instrument's actual QUALITY by criticizing whether or not it was set-up properly before shipping. To me it's the thing itself which is the test. For the paltry sum of money I paid for this fiddle, it's performed magnificently. I owned both a comparable Fender AND Kentucky and found them both wildly substandard. I got rid of them fast and got another EPIPHONE- the MM50 this time. I have no complaints about this product or the company.

I have the MM-30E/AS. The "E" means electric. This new model has a piezzo pickup under the bridge, which is a great advantage when playing with other musicians who are amplified or in public gatherings where you need more volume. Because of that, the bridge is fixed in the proper position for the right intonation. It needed no adjustments. However, the strings needed to be changed, since they were old, even though the mandolin was new. In the area of the country where I live, mandolins don't sell quickly, so this was in the warehouse for some time, I suspect. The tone is very good, due to the solid spruce top and mahogany body and the gold tuners add to the elegance of this instrument. The chop chords sound good and it has a "woody sound", which is what you want. With this mandolin, you get a lot for for your money!

I purchased this mandolin a few days ago and I am satisfied with not only its aesthetic value(having a beautiful finish and color), but the sound and quality; this instrument resonates very well and the action is not too high like many mandolins I have played. I would suggest purchasing this item at a local guitar center or such, given that I am not sure how well this instrument is handled when being shipped.
