Great instrument, arrived ready to play. Upgrade the strings to GHS silk and steel, set bridge, intonation and use a 2.0 mm pick. Sounds great!

This is an absolute beast of a mandolin! I can't believe this thing is sub $1,000 and sounds this good. The tone is woody with just a little sparkle. I've heard $5000 Gibson mandolins that don't sound half as good as the md315! It doesn't have all the fancy binding, bells, and whistles like higher $$ ones, but it makes up for it in tone. Hands down, best mandolin for the money!

I'll start with I get nervous buying instruments online because you cant play it first and risk of damage during shipping. I purchased this Mandolin and it came w damage from shipping. I got it from the seller QuinnViolins & FretCentral, I will say they were great and told me ship it back and were awesome to deal with. I would definitely recommend doing business with them. This is a killer mandolin that sounds nice. Also I dont know if they did a setup on it or it came from the factory like this but it's setup nice and easy to play.

The tone and clarity is excellent for this instrument. As many have said, this a no-frills instrument with excellent tone wood, carved top and back, and great playability. I bought mine locally to play other instruments (compared to the Loar, Kentucky, and others in this price-point). I found this one to have better tone and projection. I'm very happy with this instrument. I gave "For beginners" a 4-star rating due to the price. A great instrument.

This is the 5th mandolin I have bought. And it is by far the best experience I have had. All the other mandolins I have bought had to have some sort of setup done. (Lower the bridge, set the intonation etc.) This is not a complicated process but I am not sure why it can't be done at the factory or dealer. Granted this is the most expensive mandolin I have bought but all I had to do was tune it up and play it. Intonation is already set. Action although slightly on the high side is certainly acceptable. Tone and projection is great. I can't find a single flaw in the fit and finish. All the other mandolins I've bought snag the rag on the frets when I am wiping it down after use. The frets on this one are very well finished on the sides. Tuning keys on mine are very easy to turn. I wasn't really crazy about the satin finish at first but it is growing on me. The case is great too for a soft case. Adds great protection. I will probably get a hard case eventually but for now this one is great.

This is a great instrument for beginners and pros alike. It has amazing tone and volume. Very well built! The ONLY thing I disliked are the tuning machines. They are extremely stiff and hard to turn. I ordered and easily installed some vintage style Grover open gear tuners on it. Now its almost perfect. Expect very fine materials and craftamanship. Just dont expect anything fancy at all. They left off all the fancy, frilly doo-dads on this mandolin. That is how you get such a good deal on this solid wood instrument. P.S.: The description says it has a Rosewood fingerboard, but it has a real Ebony fingerboard, bridge, and saddle.
