I am a beginner to mandolin, but I have played ukulele for a bit over a year. I got an inexpensive mandolin for Christmas, and have been learning about set-up since then. I found out about these while I was researching mandolins with zero frets.Installing it took me about 45 minutes, some sandpaper and some files, I cut the fret with a Dremel. You have to sand it on 4 sides to make it fit. As long as you continually check it, you should be fine. It comes with 4 frets of different heights. I just put the lowest one in and tuned everything up to check for buzzing. There was no buzzing. Then I cut and filed the fret to fit. It says you need to glue it in place, but the string tension seems to be holding it in place just fine.Intonation on fret 1 is now perfect according to a digital tuner. Up to fret 7 intonation is improved. Past fret 7 intonation is about how it was, possibly slightly better.Action height is optimal now. String spacing is even and height is even as well.Overall - inexpensive way to make a cheaper mandolin play like a really good one. 10/10. Great product.
