This sensor is the one that goes near the thermostat. I was trying to do preventive maintenance since the sensor came with the car back in 2000. This sensor I bought did read, however I noticed the temperature gage was jumping up and down. What I will do is buy a toyta genuine part number 89422-35010. It may be 3x more but oem just works plug n play
