Product Description

burns

Burns

  • Cooling all burns with tepid to cool water, regardless of degree. Continue flushing the area for up to 10 minutes. Do not apply ice, ointments, butter or other “home remedies”. Remove all clothing or garments to reduce the contact time with hot items.
  • Cover affected areas with a clean dry cloth, towel or blanket to protect the burn and minimize pain.
  • Seek medical attention if burn is larger than the victim’s hand size, if the victim is a child or elderly person.
Fracture

Fracture

  • Immobilize the injured area: If you suspect they’ve broken a bone in their neck or back, help them stay as still as possible. If you suspect they’ve broken a bone in one of their limbs, immobilize the area using a splint or sling.
  • Apply cold to the area: Wrap an ice pack or bag of ice cubes in a piece of cloth and apply it to the injured area for up to 10 minutes at a time.
  • Treat them for shock: Help them get into a comfortable position, encourage them to rest, and reassure them. Cover them with a blanket or clothing to keep them warm.
  • You should call 911 if:
  • unconscious
  • doesn’t appear to be breathing
  • broken a bone in their head, neck, or back
  • the fractured bone has pushed through their skin
  • they’re bleeding heavily
bleeding

Bleeding

  • For severe bleeding
  • Remove any clothing or debris on the wound. Don't remove large or deeply embedded objects. Don't probe the wound or attempt to clean it yet.
  • Stop the bleeding. Place a sterile bandage or clean cloth on the wound. Press the bandage firmly with your palm to control bleeding. Apply constant pressure until the bleeding stops. Maintain pressure by binding the wound with a thick bandage or a piece of clean cloth. Don't put direct pressure on an eye injury or embedded object.
  • Secure the bandage with adhesive tape or continue to maintain pressure with your hands. If possible, raise an injured limb above the level of the heart.
  • Help the injured person lie down. If possible, place the person on a rug or blanket to prevent loss of body heat.
  • Tourniquets: A tourniquet is effective in controlling life-threatening bleeding from a limb. When emergency help arrives, explain how long the tourniquet has been in place.
  • Call 911 for severe bleeding that you can't control.
Choking

Choking

  • To perform abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) on someone else:
  • Stand behind the person. Place one foot slightly in front of the other for balance. Wrap your arms around the waist. Tip the person forward slightly. If a child is choking, kneel down behind the child.
  • Make a fist with one hand. Position it slightly above the person's navel.
  • Grasp the fist with the other hand. Press hard into the abdomen with a quick, upward thrust — as if trying to lift the person up.
  • Perform between six and 10 abdominal thrusts until the blockage is dislodged.
  • If you're the only rescuer, perform back blows and abdominal thrusts before calling 911 or your local emergency number for help. If another person is available, have that person call for help while you perform first aid.
  • If the person becomes unconscious, perform standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with chest compressions and rescue breaths
resuscitation

Resuscitation

  • 1. Put the person on his or her back on a firm surface.
  • 2. Kneel next to the person's neck and shoulders.
  • 3. Place the heel of one hand over the center of the person's chest, between the nipples. Place your other hand on top of the first hand. Keep your elbows straight and position your shoulders directly above your hands.
  • 4. Use your upper body weight (not just your arms) as you push straight down on (compress) the chest at least 2 inches (approximately 5 centimeters) but not greater than 2.4 inches (approximately 6 centimeters). Push hard at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions a minute.
  • 5. If you haven't been trained in CPR, continue chest compressions until there are signs of movement or until emergency medical personnel take over. If you have been trained in CPR, go on to opening the airway and rescue breathing.

Great little bag and I like how its red so easy to spot for someone looking for it. The stuff that comes inside is alright but you can add more stuff depending on what you tend to use/need the most. Definitely a must have for someone car camping!

Came with good First-Aid materials, however there aren't any pockets inside just a few elastic strips to hold everything. Unless you pack it just like the picture after you've taken them out of the bigger plastic bag(s) it's hard to organize. If you're just wanting one thing then you have to take out several things. There's plenty of room for additional items but keeping them in one spot is challenging. Other than that minor detail I don't foresee any issues with the product and I'm still pleased with the purchase.

I bought this for a western hunt I was going on in Colorado. Had everything I needed aside from some quick-clot and a tourniquet. Basic medical supplies that I can use anywhere, anytime. Small and very packable. It fit in my backpack very nice and can be fit anywhere else I would possibly need. The red color is also nice for easy identification.

Good pouch, durable material. Contents useful but not all encompassing. Once organized and filled with other essentials, it is the perfect kit to keep in your vehicle.

I rarely write reviews, but this product has earned it. I got the red IFAK (because the Ouchie Pouchie needs to be *immediately* visible) - it came with all the basics that you’ll need, two kinds of shears, and even heavy duty tweezers, and some items that would don’t need, but are just cool to have. (Lookin at you, space blanket and poncho.) I took everything out, organized all the stuff in waterproof silicone “Ziploc” bags, and I added a tourniquet. And yes, it all fits. The bag itself has stretchy straps on the inside to pull the bag closed, so it doesn’t flop everywhere or let the wind hit all the delicate boo-boo awards and take them airborne. It’s got straps running through the inside of the bag to hold the stuff in and down, but still makes everything accessible. I’m impressed and recommended it to everyone who’s into preparedness (or stuff.)
