I can make everyone within thirty feet wince, simply by blowing air into these show stoppers!

A really nice item overall, but the light doesn't work. Returning isn't an option so wasteful money.

As a former USAF Survival Instructor I'm always on the lookout for neat survival items. This whistle combination is a good one!The sellers description & photos are accurate. The light is very bright, though I'm not sure if batteries are replaceable. Also you do have to hold the light button to keep the light on, minor issue. The fold out magnifying glass is quite small, but would be useful for splinter removal or to focus the sun for fire starting. The mirror, also small, is good for checking your eyes, or other areas and though small, could be an effective signaling source. Compass floats easily and works well. The temperature gauge is fairly accurate, but maybe off a few degrees. Also the temp. markings are a bit small for my eyes, but remains a nice feature. The break-away neck lanyard is a good length and helps keep the tool from getting lost. The storage compartment, well, its got a very narrow opening. You can't fit much in it and still retrieve it, but it could be used to store fire starting material, or a well folded, small paper (map, ID info etc...) The main feature, the whistle, is very loud and sounds with a light breath. A whistle could be the most under-rated safety/rescue item there is. This one is shrill and very loud - which is what you want. Great item for camping, hiking, older children (it's not a toy) or just taken along on a long walk.

Got this for my kids who are in scouts as a multipurpose tool to have on hand when they are going camping or scouting activities. Measuring just under 4.5" in length, it's a multipurpose utility that includes a whistle, a compass, a thermometer, a magnifying glass, an LED flashlight, and a reflector. The magnifying glass and reflector are in a foldable "arms" that slides open. The operation of the LED flas light button requires you to hold down the button (it doesn't stay on). Overall, it's a useful but a bit "cheap" (and feels cheap), if you're expecting a high quality/premium feeling "McGyver-type" tool. But for kids/scouts, I guess it works.

For less than $10, this isn't going to be a highly precise tool like a $50 or $100 multifunction device, but for me it does what I need it to do, and it's very inexpensive. Everything on it works fine. My wife and I are going on a camping drive through Alaska, covering Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay to Anchorage and back to Fairbanks. Mainly I wanted a whistle for each of us (this one and another) to alert bears to our presence, and so we can find each other if we separate and wander off from each other. I wanted something inexpensive in case it gets lost. The other functions have some use to use too.Whistle seems loud, and is more of a high pitched shriek than a sports whistle tweet.Compass works fine, and typical of an inexpensive floating compass, you have to tilt/bounce it around a little to get it to rotate completely. Once it settles out, it has been accurate for me.Thermometer works fine. It isn't super granular/graduated, but it's accurate. The LED light works fine. Equivalent to a keychain LED light. Good for finding your way around in a dark car or tent without waking people up.Mirror and magnifier are small but work fine. Magnifier can be used to start a fire, if there's sun.Lanyard attaches fine, and can be used with other things.I thought it was a misprint, but there really is a small storage spot that looks to be waterproof. Maybe good for tweezers or toothpicks.

I ordered the army green version of this whistle based on another reviewer's recommendation. The whistle comes apart to reveal a magnifying glass (perfect if you get a splinter!) and a little mirror. On its own the mirror doesn't look like much but combined with the magnifying lens I feel like it does a better job of becoming a signal mirror. The whistle itself is fairly large, not super loud loud but loud enough to annoy my dogs. The compass is passable. It does a good job of pointing you in the general direction of N-S-E-W but I don't know that you could rely on it to navigate a ship :) Of course at just under 8 USD this is a ridiculously good value and would be perfect to add to a BoB or just in your hiking bag for trail hiking. It has a little flash light but you have to keep the button pushed down to activate it. It isn't SUPER bright but it lights up the path directly in front of you and would be good if you needed to take care of something directly in front of you. There is also a Celsius temperature gauge that I did not check for accuracy. This is an easy 5* product based on ease of use, value and usability. It is far from perfect but as I said: would be great in a BoB, for day hikes on easy trails and such. Overnight camping as well. If you were, let's say, going outback deep in the country with no trails…opt for something of a higher quality but for general usage: this whistle with lanyard and the other features is terrific.

I bought the whistles to use on the playground at school to get my class to line up. The whistle has a good, clean tone that really carries well. One of the other teachers started admiring my whistle and asked if it came in a set of 2 and if I would be willing to sell it to them. So, now I have one whistle.
