Unfortunately, a large issue created a smaller one to which this product was needed. I moved into my current home (in the country with a septic system, not a sewer) only to have repeated drain issues. I called in professionals to pump out my septic tank, only to find other issues that needed to be fixed to the tune of $5k. At that time, they advised highly that I remove my sump pump water from the septic system to help with further issues. As I was researching how to do just that, I found this product recommended highly based on the climate where I live. So we got to work digging the trench for new tile to redirect the sump water out of the septic system. After it was all installed, I kept a close eye on the pipe during the Arctic weather we had this winter. While some water froze around the inlet pipe (into the ground) this fitting did exactly what it was meant to do. Not once did it freeze solid even on the coldest day. And trust me, my sump runs a lot. I am so grateful that I researched the proper way to do this project and that this product did exactly what it was intended to do.

Just overflows out even when pipes are not frozen would probably need to dig up the pipes and convert them to 3in all the way to the street not designed with 1.5 in to 3in usability

Great addition, no freezing even with -5 temps.

Will not fit a 3 inch pvc pipe but a little heat with a heat gun and you’ll get the snuggest fit ever .Your welcome

Seems to be a good product. Would prefer the vents ran horizontal opposed to vertical. Regardless it allows for freeze and back flow protection.

Unless there is variance in the product, don't listen to the other reviews, this will not fit schedule 40 PVC pipe interior diameter as-is. But it is very close. I managed to get it to fit only by cutting 4 relief joints in the first ring that connects to the pipe (leave the upper ring in tact, it will rest against the PVC pipe).Note: The relief rings need to have an air gap. I used a reciprocating saw, the blade thickness creates the necessary gap. If you use snips, cut two slits right next to each other and remove the center piece.

This is a good ice break for the sump pump. The material looks as if it will last longer than the one it replaced (which got brittle and fell apart). The 1.5" side fit perfect but the 4" side was slightly (1/4") too large to fit into the drain pipe. I ended up adding a 4" straight pipe connector which would enclosed this unit. I had it sit on the original pipe and adjusted the connector so the flange was flush with top. I'm very pleased with the result.
