Worked well and as expected. It has the usual compensation adjustment for compensating for magnetic fields near where is it mounted. Note that this is a very large compass since it is intended for a boat and it would look very large in most cars. If you don't care about that, then it could be used in cars as well.

As long as you keep it away from ferrous metal you will be good to go right out of the box. It does have adjustments if you do not have that option.

Quality is not quite up to how it is portrayed. There are adjusters for calibrating to true direction, but even maxed out mine does not achieve true direction. Will be looking for a better quality one even if I have to spend more.

Good looking compass but functionality is questionable. Unable to tighten the gimbal to stand (allowing the compass to rotate vertically) without the risk of messing up the tighteners. Compass hood sloppy. You get what you pay for and wouldn't trust this compass as a standby/emergency instrument. Going back to Ritchie Brand

Very nice compass. a high quality marine compass but a well executed plastic copy that works well. I have this mounted to the windshield of my Honda Accord with industrial velcro. Very accurate. Works where several others wouldn't because of the many permanent magnet motors used in today;s automobiles. Would have given it 5 stars except for the total lack of instructions. It's large, but if your installing a marine compass in your car, that's half the fun. A conversation starter. You'll always know where North and South is and even if you're lost, you'll be able to find your way back to a freeway.
