The opener works very well. The gear that drives the opener around the can wears out after awhile. It would be 5 stars if the gear didn’t wear out. The batteries seem to last pretty long.

I had shoulder and wrist surgery, and was unable to use my regular can opener so I purchased this. I really wanted to give it five stars, but had to give it four stars because after it opens the can I have difficulty getting it to shut off. Glad I purchased this because it has really helped me in the kitchen.

Old plug-in can opener finally died a few months ago. Bought a nifty USB rechargeable replacement (similar to this, only rechargeable). and thought it was the answer. Unfortunately, after only a couple of months it stopped working (Marie Calendar soups seem to be the bane of this style of can opener). Couldn't find any other rechargeables, so decided to take a chance on a battery-operated one. Wow!It's a little funky, as it wobbles and jiggles around the can; but it cut through the thick MC soup can like nobody's business. Love that these new openers cut under the rim so there's no sharp edges and no having to pry lids out of the can with a butter knife (or your fingers).Added bonus: didn't realize it has a magnet on the underside which hangs onto the lid when it's done.All in all, well pleased!

Updated Review with lowered overall rating:During Thanksgiving, the can opener got stuck while attempting to open a can of sweet potatoes. We could not get the opener to release, stop, or anything. The only way we could get it to stop was to take the batteries out. Once taking the batteries out, we replaced them with brand new, fresh batteries. Still the same results. Motor started and would not stop or release the can. We sent in a request for product support and we received no response from the company. Crickets.... We received a "survey" from Amazon asking 2 questions Yes or No responses and no place to make and real comment. Basic question was did the request for help been resolved. We responded with "no". We still have received no response from the seller or Amazon. We are very disappointedWe have purchased a number of can openers and have found they are not reliable. With this can opener, just place it on the rim of a can and with a push of a button and away it goes. So simple and reliable. No sharp edges. Can easily store in a drawer.
