This was very simple to put together and only needed a small hammer to do it with. It’s a little flimsy at first, but once you put the braces on it, all tightens up very nicely. Very sturdy and well manufactured.

This was so easy to put together - I'm a small woman and all I needed was a rubber mallet (and some patience). No screws or tools to mess with and it's strong. I purchased a unit with 5 shelves and cut the four-shelf unit to make three, three-shelf units. I needed to cut the steel to do it, but even that was easy enough with a steel cutting blade. I highly recommend this shelving unit.

Easy to assemble and a good height so items can be stored on the top shelf. Very stable.

The shelf is OK. The frame is powder coated and somewhat sturdy. The wooden shelves are somewhat thin, but overall it seems relatively sturdy. I would not put the advertised capacity of 3200 lbs on it. It's more than sturdy enough for what I plan to put on it, though.Edsal has the WORST customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. They rarely answer the phone. When you leave a message, they will probably not return it. I have called them and left several messages. The shelf I received did not contain the needed couplers, leaving me with two 30 inch shelves instead of one 60 inch shelf. The instructions said "Please contact Edsal before returning the product" so I did so. On call number three, I finally got an answer. The representative was very helpful, and said I'd receive the couplers in 5 business days. After 2 weeks, I didn't receive a package so I decided to email this time. I got a response containing a UPS tracking number which did not work on UPS's website. When I replied informing them of this, I got not response. After a week, I called again. No answer, though my message was actually returned this time. I explained the situation, and the representative informed me the package had been returned to them by UPS, but didn't know why. They also stated they would investigate and call me back. After two days, and no call back, I called them. At this time, they stated they would send the package back to me next day air, and it would arrive no later than Monday. Today is Wednesday, and I have called and left two messages. I am done dealing with this company.Long story short, OK shelf for $50. If you have any issues, DO NOT waste your time dealing with Edsal customer service, call Amazon.

Definitely NOT heavy duty. Light duty. Flimsy particle board shelving. You get what you pay for.

A lot of people have complained about not receiving the coupling brackets to attach the top part to the bottom, but you don't need them. In fact, they don't even fit and are a waste of packaging space and money for the company. I suspect that's why so many people have received these units without the coupling brackets. If you look up Edsal UR185L-BLK Black Steel Heavy Duty 5-Shelf Shelving Unit, 4000lbs Capacity, 36" Width x 72" Height x 18" Depth (on Amazon), a customer has added pictures showing how you attach the top and bottom together without the coupling brackets. They included notes, so it should help anyone who was frustrated over not receiving the coupling brackets.I also ordered 3 of the taller units, which I put together first, so I didn't really understand the need for the coupling brackets to begin with.. I tried to use them anyways, found they do not fit, so scratched the couplers and put the unit together just like I did the taller units..I'm a 59 year old woman and I put all 5 of these units together myself.. They are heavy in the box, but UPS brought them inside and stacked them up on the floor for me.. I then slid each box, one at a time, back to my sewing room.. I put one unit up, then went and slid another box to the room, etc... I'm using them to hold bolts of fabrics. I have hundreds of bolts (I sew for a living) and fabric is amazingly heavy... These shelves have proven to be very sturdy, and I especially like that I can adjust the shelves to the heights I want...I ordered a 3rd set in this size unit just for the shelves and brackets.. I used two of the shelves for my tall units and two shelves for the shorter units.. It would have cost more money to try and create brackets and buy wood for shelves than just buying another unit..People have also complained about the shelves and how thin the wood is.. It's particle board and is thin, but not THAT thin.. It's sturdy enough for my needs.. I don't know how it would hold up if someone put a dozen cans of paint on one shelf, but these units really do seem very sturdy and strong. If the shelves were any thicker, the package would be too heavy to handle for a lot of people...A couple of the particle board wood shelves were slightly bent on the corners.. I tapped them down once they were seated on the brackets with my rubber mallet and they flatten right back down.. Since the package they arrive in is pretty heavy, I would guess someone along the way dropped the box causing the slight damage.. It was the only damage out of a total of 6 units, though...I initially planned on putting up wooden book case's to hold my fabrics, but these units costs less and hold more weight..I'm glad I went with these units.. It may sound funny that I put metal units up in my sewing room, but actually, they look fine.. I like that they're painted black. They look good!My husband plans on turning the garage into a wood working shop this spring and these have worked out so good, we're going to buy more for his shop.. I'm sure our UPS driver won't be that thrilled over having to deliver more of them, though. They are heavy in the package...You can't beat the price and if you have Amazon prime, it's free shipping that arrives in a couple of days!

Sturdy, and industrial shelving. It felt like assembling an erector set that functions. It holds a lot of my stuff. It's a bit ugly and bare, but honestly, the function is nice. The spacing is highly customizable, and it does it's job very well. It's inexpensive most of the time! My only complaints are the cheap particle boards that are used for each shelf, and some issues with the packaging.I bought this in order to stash my coolers and bottles while I homebrewed. I notice the particle boards tend to warp if they are wet. That's fine and understandable. If you want nicer wood, take the measurements and go to a lumber yard/home improvement store to get better wood.As far as the packaging goes, I had to have Amazon resend me a new one because some of the parts were damaged or missing in transit. The fiberboard seemed to have taken a hit, and there were a ton of crumbs everywhere inside of the first package. There was also a very integral piece missing. Edsal (the manufacturer) is very good about sending replacements and they will send you parts that you are missing. That is a very nice touch and very professional customer service from the manufacturer. I won't forget that. The thing is, I called Amazon and they said they'd help me get the part quicker, so I worked with them.Just note that this thing is heavy. If I recall correctly, it was around 55-68 lbs.
