The attached meter makes checking soil levels quick and convenient. You can either bury the probe for a deeper reading or just stick it right in the top for a quick accurate measure. Can be linked to a station and have had issues with function or batteries

I used the Ecowitt WH51 Wireless Soil Moisture Sensor, which only reads at a shallow depth. These ECOWITT WH51L Soil Moisture Sensors with 1m/3.28ft PVC Wire Probes extend into the middle of my 15 containers. A plus is the LED readout. Recommended

I have one in my 4x2 indoor living soil bed to read the moisture on the bottom of the bed and 3 of the top style ones to get readings of the top few inches. I have had them for a few months now and they have been working great. Easy to setup and link with the transmitter. Buying another one right now to get separate readings from each side of the bottom of the bed

The sensor works just as advertised. It has a small LCD screen on the body of the battery cover which is handy for checking at a glance. I've found it to be a big help in my living soil bed, my plants are much bigger and happier than before. The buried sensor has helped me realize I needed to be watering more than I was just using the surface sensors. The battery life is a bit worse than the surface sensors, likely due to the screen. The sensor body feels higher quality than the surface sensors as well. Overall, I highly recommend.

I have two of these soil moisture sensors. One sensor operates as expected however the second drains the battery in about 3 days. Obviously the unit is defective.

So for part of a weather system it is relatively inexpensive, it works, and the best part my first one failed in less than 6 months and the company sent a new one out.

I purchased a few of these. They can be standardized and data compared between the sensors. Lotta value in these for not a lotta dough.

This sensor does have a built-in display which will display the soil moisture, but it is part of a larger ecosystem of weather sensors and I don't have any of the other components to access it wirelessly or use the phone app, so I'm just reporting on the stand-alone sensor. First off, it is designed to be buried underground in a permanent location, not carried around and stuck into the soil at various places (though you can do that with the help of a trowel or small shovel. I calibrated it at 2 points - dry air and immersed in water, and it was accurate. Placed in a potted plant it gave reasonable results, going down as the soil dried out and coming back when I watered. I'd recommend checking the manufacturer's website for the array of other sensors and displays so you can take the best advantage of this sensor.
