About this item

  • MANUFACTURER DIRECT
  • Scale can be read from both sides of the meter
  • Built-in spirit level vial for accurate readings
  • ABS housing resists impacts

The Dwyer 480 Vaneometer anemometer with swing vane indicator measures air velocity from 25 to 400 fpm, and has a built-in spirit level vial to maintain horizontal plane for accurate readings. The meter has ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) housing that resists impacts. It is sized for portability and includes a mounting bracket for continuous monitoring applications. The scale can be read from both sides of the meter. This anemometer is used for monitoring ventilation in spray booths and exhaust hoods, among other low-velocity applications.

Specifications

Anemometers, also called wind meters, measure air velocity and are most commonly used for weather monitoring to determine wind speed and for HVAC applications to determine air flow within ducts. In addition to air velocity, anemometers may measure wind direction, air pressure, air flow volume, air temperature, humidity, light, and other properties. The most common types of anemometer are cup, vane, hot-wire, and Pitot tube. Cup and vane anemometers calculate air velocity based on the number of rotations of the cups or vane. Hot-wire anemometers calculate air velocity by measuring the change in electrical resistance as air flow cools a heated wire. Pitot tube anemometers measure air pressure within a tube and calculate air velocity based on the difference in pressure between the air inside and outside of the tube. Many anemometers have digital readouts and can display air velocity readings in different units of measure, such as meters per second (m/s), feet per minute (ft./min. or fpm), knots, miles per hour (mph), and kilometers per hour (km/h).

Dwyer Instruments manufactures measurement and control instruments, including pressure gauges, flow meters, level instrumentation, temperature instrumentation, and air quality monitors. The company, founded in 1931, is headquartered in Michigan City, IN.

This is a very basic vaneometer, but it does what it needs to. No need for anything more complicated.

Bought the used /open box one supposedly in like new condition. It comes with mounting plate, 2 vanes (1 installed vane and a spare vane) mounting hardware and instructions.Pretty cool little device. One I needed and couldn't wait to receive as I'm building a DIY Spray Booth.Unfortunately, not in the description was the fact the two vanes were both damaged the one I received. Making it useless till I can order more.Vane part number in case you need them yourself: 69-100050-00The vane itself is just a piece of what looks to be mylar with a pin through it. Originally I thought they metal having never seen one up close. Unfortunately once bent or a crease is in them as you can see the ones I received were, they have to be replaced. There's no fixing them as far as I know.Though this is a major inconvenience, this Vaneometer will definitely help me tune my diy spray booth. And keep it in tune. Thanks seller for not disclosing the damage. Real nice of you. Hence the -3 stars.I'm sure when I get the new vanes the meter will work as it should. Meter itself, 5 stars.Sincere thanks to Amazon for fulfillment and the carrier for delivery as well.Happy Holidays to you and yours all concerned.Cheers...

I got the vaneometer to measure air flow from my operating room into the adjoining hallway so I could document it for the Medicare surveyors. It works perfectly. Inexpensive, easy to operate - it is exactly what we needed.

Although a little "cheesy", it works as intended and gets the job done. Much less expensive than other devices that accomplish the same task. Good if you do not need a calibrated reading from a certified instrument. For ISO 9001/14001/17025 this is a good device to verify operation of exhaust hoods.
