It's so small... like it's not going last in my aquarium, will immediately be food. Every single piece is absolutely tiny, which is crazy considering how fast duck weed grows. The pictures are very misleading, makes it look like you get decent sized duck weed. It's basically over priced fish food for a meal. Never will buy from them again.

Important:if you buy this, Open the package *outdoors*! The scent is terrible and very very strong. It's duckweed. Easy to grow. It was cheaper than the gas I'd need to go collect some from a pond so I bought it. When it arrived, I got a quarantine bucket ready and opened the package to dump the plants into the water.A strong, foul sewage stench filled the room and I retched multiple times. I ran the stuff outdoors to quarantine on the porch. So yeah, beneath the packaged plants and the packing slip was a folded piece of paper. The third paragraph there warns of a "normal" sewage odor. Too little too late! My bathroom STILL reeked of sewer gas the next day. Even with the exhaust fan running. So everything is fine now, but I sure wish I'd been warned! Be kind to your nose and open outside. Better still, harvest (and then quarantine) a few plants from your local pond. The stench was from the lack of oxygen during shipping, and unavoidable, but at least you'll be ready for it. I wasn't.

The duckweed came in a nearly flat little envelope inside a ziplock baggie. The temperature was in the 40's so it survived nicely. 500? No, more like 50,000!I noticed 2 major negative comments in other reviews that need to be clarified.--First, some buyers were disappointed in the size of the plants and the fact they didn't grow larger. This duckweed is Lemna minor, the world's smallest flowering plant. It is a perfect size for smaller fish to eat. Do not confuse this with "giant duckweed" (Spirodela polyrhiza) or one of the other 2 or 3 larger look-alikes, also sold on Amazon. Even those are fairly tiny too. If you want something BIG, go for flowering water hyacinths.--Second, some comments stated a few small snails snuck in with the duckweed. They eat algae off the glass and gravel of aquariums so I don't know why they would be unwelcome. However, there is a simple way to eliminate them if you must. I emptied the bag into a glass bowl full of clean, non-chlorinated, room temp water. Any foreign matter (dirt?) sank to the bottom. I then scooped out a spoonful of duckweed at a time. That made it easy to identify any snails or other tag-alongs as I emptied the spoon into my tank.I do think any complaints are because of a misunderstanding of what the reviewers were buying. And yes, I could have scooped some off a pond, but at this price, it's much easier to purchase the duckweed than to wade through the mud and cold water that might be contaminated with who-knows-what.Five stars all around!

I wish I'd taken a photo before throwing the whole mess away, but I received living duckweed, along with a million worms. I have no idea what kind of worms they are, but they were tiny and red and not anything I wanted in my turtle tank.I ended up with one under my fingernail while trying to dump the mess out into a smaller container and the number of worms was such that the few drops of water I did get out gave about a dozen tiny writhing threads. Glad I didn't dump right into the tank because for all I know they're parasitic. I washed my hands under scalding water with several pumps of soap. Still feel itchy.Even through the sealed bag it smelled like rot, but I didn't want to judge on that because of the tiny leaves. I didn't realize it was probably also due to dying worms until I saw one squiggle as I held the bag open. I thought the red streaks were just vegetation matter!I am completely squicked out. I do not recommend this product. I feel like this was possibly gathered from a random swamp and possibly could have really hurt my pet turtle, since I have no idea what they were.
