Oops! OK, this one is a bit of an engineering disaster. The upper arms are accurate when you look at the scale on the tool and it says "X" inches or centimeters. Measure the distance, with a ruler or tape measure, between those two upper arms and it matches the scale on the tool. However, the bottom arms on the tool that go inside of any brake drum to measure how wide the inside of the brake drum is (brake drums get wider on the inside as they wear) are just about 1/2" wider than the scale on the tool says. You can still use the tool but ignore the scale when measuring internal diameter of a brake drum and just use a ruler or tape measure to measure the distance between the two riveted on points that contact the sides of the brake drum. Someone dropped the ball on this tool. DOH! DOH! DOH!

Measuring my brake pads, rotors, and drum brake is an integral part of a brake job. Some rotors and drum brakes can only last 1 or two shoes/pads replacement and for your own safety, make you measure them and ensure they are within acceptable limits. I have seen worn out pads with very worn out rotors that it end up leaking brake fluid into the seals as it is past its safe limits. I have been using a caliper for rotors and try to measure a drum with a carpenter's retractable measuring tool which is not too accurate.Either I do not know how to use this properly or this is a poorly designed product so for those that know what they are doing and I look like I'm talking rubbish, ignore this review. My caliper can only go up to 6inch so I cannot use that to verify this product's accuracy so I used a measuring tape but I only have it in inches to do not quote me on the metric side. Lets also describe both measuring tool by part that measures the inner diameter (the pointed ones) and the part that measures the outer diameter or brake shoes (flat ones). The outer diameter tool is accurate according to my measuring tape (not sure how accurate) and I can trust it to measure the brake shoes but its purpose for this tool is to only compare the brake shoes to the brake drum and ensure that it will fit when placed. We don't normally measure brake shoes like how I measure break pads as the wear is not usually uniform but still make sure it more than few mm from metal. The inner diameter measuring tool is off (larger) by about 1/4" or about 8mm. This is big since the difference from new to minimum is measured in millimeters. Using this is an absolute nightmare and a hazard. They have riveted a more pointed edge and without it, it is actually accurate. It is riveted so I can't just easily remove it. It would have been nice if this was accurate to the teeth. I will keep this tool but will not rely on its measurement but otherwise, I would have thrown this to the trash. Disappointing

I bought this ahead of time for a project that was on a long to do list before winter so I unfortunately realized too late how terrible this product was when it was already outside the refund window. Please let me prevent you from wasting your time and money. This tool is supposed to measure the same distance on the inside caliper as the outside caliper when locked in place but due to the sloppy tolerances, the measurement of one side to the other can vary by at least a few millimeters which is already a huge problem considering that's the entire purpose of the tool. Assuming you're able to get it perfectly straight and eliminate the slop, the inside measurement to the outside measurement is off by 10mm.
