  • High-speed steel tools are good for most general purpose applications, offering a combination of hardness and toughness for wear resistance
  • Right-hand cut tools have a cutting action that engages when they are run in a clockwise direction
  • Round die is chamfered on both faces
  • Adjustment is obtained by a fine pitch screw which forces the sides of the die apart, or allows them to spring together
  • The slot is beveled

Drill America DWT Series Qualtech High-Speed Steel round adjustable die is desired for improved wear life. Round Dies are chamfered on both faces. One side has a 2 to 3 thread chamfer for threading, the other side has a 1 to 1-1/2 thread chamfer for threading close to a shoulder. Adjustment is obtained by a fine pitch screw which forces the sides of the die apart, or allows them to spring together. The slot is beveled so that when the die is use in a machine holder the adjusting screw can be removed and adjustment made by the adjusting screws in the holder.

I used this tool to thread a stainless steel shift linkage arm for my Wilson Pre-Selector Gearbox. My other dies were dull and failed to fully cut the thread. This new adjustable die worked great right out of the package, with clean accurate threads on the piece. Now I can proceed with my project and get the car back on the road!

Just what I needed to fabricate a new handle screw for my #6 Stanley plane. Since it is a split die I was able to loosen the screw and squeeze it in a vice to match the diameter needed to replace the obsolete thread pattern Stanley used.

Exactly as I needed nice and sharp cut thru the rod like butter and is still nice and sharp for the next use.

Excellent die. Threaded hardened brake rods with relative ease.

I paid a bunch extra for a part made locally. Checked with them. Received a part made in China. My first review wasn’t posted due to stating this in detail. Do not buy.

I bought this die because I was having difficulty with a new die that came with a tap from another vendor that had good ratings. I am using it to thread stainless steel rods (1/8"). The other die was not adjustable, and it did not cut new threads very well. Perhaps it should only be used for cleaning up existing threads but it was supposed to be HSS (though labled 'S'). This die cut new threads on the stainless steel rods at least 5 times easier and much quicker. I had to go very slow, 15 degrees or less forward and back off, with the other die. With this one, the threading started easier and the cuts seem like I might be able to just go forward, though my style is to be more careful. I am VERY happy to have made this purchase and applaud the function AND value, and fast shipping from Drill America on this product.

Works as expected. I’ve used it to cut several threads on small projects in my lathe. It does take some patience due to the size.

Poorly made. Wouldn't even start on an existing m7 x1.25 thread. Don't waste your time or money. Sent straight back for a refund. Only gets one star because I can't give none.
