Your cart is empty.Drill America Qualtech 29 piece drill blank set comes in a metal case. Hardened and ground, blanks are often used as gages to check hole size and drill bushing size. Can often be used as guide pins for die sets or modified as punches. High-speed steel tools are good for most general purpose applications, offering a combination of hardness and toughness for wear resistance. Black oxide treatment adds lubricity and creates small pockets on the surface of the tool that act to hold coolant near the cutting edge. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems. When run in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cut) spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging. Set include fractional sizes: 1/16" to 1/2" (1/64 Increments).

I bought two of these sets, both from Amazon, not a third party seller.One came in what appears to be a genuine Qualtech box, with a nice Huot index inside.The other came in a generic brown box, no company label or markings, and a stack of barcodes, one over the other. Inside was a junk generic index that barely opened and closed.On to the blanks.The one set appears to be a mish-mosh of blanks from at least four different sources. It has three different end styles - ground square, chamfered, and pointed, and four different size marking styles - unmarked, etched with the word "China", printed, and printed with "USA".The other set is a matched set all printed with the size and "PTD USA", which looks like the labeling of Precision Twist Drill, except they moved their manufacturing from Illinois to Brazil years ago ... and I haven't seen anything labeled PTD USA since.So I have no idea where these were made, or what they're made of. I have to suspect that even the ones stamped "USA" are Chinese knockoffs.But they seem to all be true to size, and true to round.Which makes them just fine for my purposes, gauging and positioning.I'd hesitate to use these for custom ground tooling, as I doubt the metal is good quality.
