Mandrels are used to mount different accessories to use with your Dremel rotary tool. The 401 Dremel Mandrel features a 1/8 In. (3.2 mm) shank with a screw-like head used primarily to hold soft and pliable accessories like polishing bits. The accessories can be threaded onto the mandrel simply by screwing the accessory into place. The 401 Mandrel can be used with the 414, 422 and 429 cleaning and polishing accessories.

I use it for polishing small metal parts. A dremel polishing tip 422 is used and attaches to this mandrel.

Lost one, had to have another. So in goes the order. This is an item that is indispensable for dremel users. Particularly for those who use polishing wheels and cones. It is inexpensive and it is far better to be with than without.

Who knows where my mandrel ended up... garage floor, some crack somewhere - maybe in a late night stupor I flushed it down the toilet. In any case, I lost it, found it on Amazon and got it shipped pronto. I love it.
