i saw some reviews with the soldering coming apart. i decided to risk it anyway. dorman is now putting some coating over the soldering to help hold it all together. hopefully it holds up.

Bought this as an easier/cheaper fix for replacing the fans in my mini. Have done this job for a few friends now with the same piece. Never had to worry about it again.

It fixes the issue of a broken relay in the MINI Cooper. We install them a lot and they work great. This is the part to fix it correctly. don;t follow the home made ways on the internet!

Worked as intended. AS noted by other reviewers, the wiring connections are very weak. Re soldering is a must. Here are some install instructions - [...] . Also note if , like me, you have a two plug fan (2002 and early 2003 Mini), some grinding is needed to allow the on-fan relay to fit.

Good product. A few weeks after installing this the fan completely gave out. I recommend replacing the fan to begin with. This relay is on a new fan assembly. My 2004 R53 had a issue with over heating and the fan would have been a good maintenance part.

Despite the title, it is just the resistor (the visible metal spring) and a plastic box. I knew this before purchase.Although somewhat less expensive than a new aftermarket fan, the manufacturing quality of this part is poor. The spot welds that connect the copper leads to the pads that are crimped to the resistor were not adequately melted, only two strands had welded, and the wire leads broke right off. The spot welds are concealed by some silicone goop, so you must remove that to inspect the spot welds.I discovered the spot welds before replacing the fan into the car and was able to use ring terminals and drill complimentary holes to retrofit the existing harness to this resistor.Compared to purchasing an all new fan, or an appropriately rated aluminum load resistor and attaching it to the car's frame this is not a good deal at this price.

The kit didn't include the referenced wiring connectors, but even if it did I still would have used solder and heat-shrink tubing instead. It fits fine and works great in my 2006 Cooper S. Let's hope it lasts longer than the factory part.
