I gave middle of row because we just received. Not sure yet since the air chuck doesn't have ANY threads to thread onto the boot. Hopefully, product works

This was a "Used - like new" item but it arrived not like new and defective, it just leaked air and if you dont continue to depress the air button it simply collapses. No thanks for Amazon sending me a returned, used and defective item. Next I had to make two trips to the UPS store as they would not accept my return in the box Amazon put it in....it was not sent to me in original packing even damaged original packaging. The one star here is as much for the product as it is for Amazon making this a mess for me and costing me gas money for two trips to the next town over which is the nearest UPS store for me. I guess moral of the story is when you order Amazon used like new items you are rolling the dice.

After ripping multiple cv boots trying to slide them on over a long oil/ fluid funnel, this thing blew my mind. Just take your time positioning the new boot on the machine, expand the fingers, slip the axle into the open fingers and viola. You now have a cv joint that won’t rain demon grease all over your steering and suspension components. Wish I would have bought this long ago. I have a 02 f150 4x4 with a torsion key lift that destroys cv boots. Now with this tool, I wouldn’t mind changing out boots twice a year if the truck needed it. I installed articulating cv axles that were a bit pricey so now I know to just keep an eye on the boots and I can change them out without any hesitation of the work being difficult. Don’t drag your feet on this purchase. It was well worth the money I spent on a slightly used unit!

Yes, you will need propper expandable boots. It worked perfectly! Took a little finesse to remove the smaller end off the tool onto the shaft, but it worked great.Tip: after getting on small shaft re-expand to more easily pull over onto the joint, avoiding laying boot in grease.Second tip, don't forget to burp (let air out) of the boot before adding clamps.

Works good. Not worth the price unless I change 100 boots before this tool fails.

I bought this tool and used it with the recommended universal fit cv boots. The tool wouldn't stretch the boot more than an inch or two without 150psi. Then at full extension it just ripped the boots in half, at $25 a boot ripping three was not fun. I used the tool properly, within specifications. Two stars instead of one because build quality of the tool is very nice.

Worked like a charm. Very easy to use and took me no time to get my cv boot back on. I soaked the boot in really hot water prior to stretching just to give it a little more flex. I opened and closed 4 or 5 times with the boot on trying to get a good angle and the boot never ripped. Only compaint is the item was marked new in the description but I could tell it was used due to the sealing tape half way torn off around the threads. But it worked great.

The tool is quite effective and had no trouble once I figured out how to use. The instructions are very poor and may benefit from the person who writes it trying to use if based on the terse instructions. Clearly it could be made simple with images or drawings with detailed suggestions on how to do CV joints for those who need additional guidance. Specification should be included with max pressure that can be applied.BUT, over all it is a GREAT tool that every mechanic or tool-freak should have in their box JUST IN CASE! Other review said not happy with Dorman "kit" of boots and I would suggest that it is better to get actual fitted boots for application form arizona or other supplier.

I had grease leaking from one of the outer cv boots on my Mazda. The axle was previously replaced around 4 years ago, and was still under warranty. I figured that I would just get the new axle under warranty, and swap it out. Wrong. After spending 1 1/2 days pounding on the old one to remove it, with no success, I finally gave in, and took it to the shop. Got a call later that day, that they couldn't remove it either. Every person in the shop tried all of their normal tricks to remove it, but finally gave up and told me to come get my car. I wasn't sure what to do. The axle was fine, other than the leaky boot, and it hadn't been leaking long enough to get any dirt inside it.I came across this tool searching the internet for a solution. I had no idea that you could remove & replace a cv boot, without taking the axle out first. (you can find videos online showing how it works) Amazon had the best price by far, and two days later, it arrived. You have to use only the Dorman stretch type boots with it, but they are no more $$$ than other brands, and my local auto parts store had one in stock for my vehicle. After cutting off my old boot, and cleaning off the old grease, I installed the new boot with this tool in about 10 minutes - including the 2 metal straps. All totaled, it was about a 30 minute repair. The instructions were fairly complete, and clearly state that the operating pressure should be 58 - 101 psi, which you control with your air compressor regulator, not this tool. I used 60 psi, and it worked great. Just be sure to use the recommended boots with it. Standard boots will almost certainly tear, and/or damage the tool jaws. (Remember to look for the online videos, to see how to use it)One additional suggestion would be to buy or borrow a banding tool for the straps. I used pliers & a screwdriver, but it was a pain to get them tight enough. After I was done, I bought an OTC 4623 CV Joint Banding Tool And Cutter for around $14, so next time, it will be even faster to change the boot.If your axle has been leaking for a while, and has dirt inside the boot, it may have ruined the joint inside, and just changing the boot is not going to fix that. You need to change the axle. But for simple boot changes, you can't beat this tool. I got a smokin deal on this, for just over one hundred bucks, so it can pay for itself after one or two boot changes, vs. buying the whole axle.
