The microphone is very sensitive. I used a 1/8 male to 1/8 female cable and shock mounted the mic to the interior of the instrument. It solved the buckling issues.

The package came with no signs of damage. The factory packaging was undamaged as well.On unboxing, I could see the copper wire from the coil was pushed up through the holes where the poles stick through.BAD MANUFACTURING

Easy to install and was surprised with the great sound . Hooked it up to my 12 string Yamaha and am very happy with it!

This looks like a very nice pickup, solidly built and attractive, I like the mic idea. However I returned it un-installed, for a couple of issues:--It would not fit my guitar, an OM sized acoustic, a Blue ridge which is pretty decent. I measured the sound hole after failing to get it to fit. The stated measurements are 3.8”/96.6mm ~ 3.94”/102mm, my hole was about 3.82". I also checked my Martin dreadnought, which has a 4" hole, and according the the specs also wouldn't have fit, that's about 1/8" margin of error. I could probably have made it fit pretty easily by trimming the tabs, and kept it, except:--This is pretty heavy, almost 4oz. This would have made a noticeable difference in the tone on any pretty good guitar, though might be worth if you mostly want volume.-- Also to install it properly you need to increase the size of the end pin hole to accommodate the 1/4 plug insert . Not hard to do if you're handy with a drill, but for those less handy you can easily cause damage to your instrument.

I installed the Donner pickup into my martin guitar as a backup for playing in church. I've always played my Taylor guitar (15 years). After a check with the sound man, I decided to play the Martin during the service. After the service, I received several compliments on how good the guitar sounded that day. It couldn't have been a coincidence. Most didn't realize I was playing a different guitar. After Christmas, I'll buy another Donner pickup to test out in the Taylor. It's shocking to have my Taylor with the expression system beat by an inexpensive pickup.Update: I bought another Donner pickup. Same model as before. This time I placed it in my 12 string acoustic guitar. A washburn I bought about 25 years ago. It sounds good on my cheap amp. Can't wait to try it out at church praise band.

When reviewing this pickup, I have to take into consideration that I have it installed in an inexpensive Jasmine guitar. The guitar is not bad by any means, but it is no Yamaha either.Overall the installation is not difficult, if you are installing it externally, there is a battery holster, that the instructions recommend adhering to the top of the guitar next to the sound hole, I opted for placing it on the back of the guitar instead.Put a battery in there, connect that to the power on the bottom of the pick up and connect the output jack to the 1/8" connector and Bob's your uncle. There is a loop that is supposed to slip on to your strap peg, and mine was missing velcro or whatever adhesive they would use. Doesn't matter to me, as I opted to install it internally....oh boy, here we go:Installation really wasn't that bad, but be prepared, the instructions included are TERRIBLE. I mean it's like someone typed them out initially in heavily slang Chinese, and then copy/pasted them into google translate, but got google translate nearly blackout drunk before doing the actual translation....they are bad, as in, they make 80's video game translations look good by comparison. My only other problem with installation is that, being in a trade, my arms tend to be a bit too big to reach into the guitar at the angle necessary, meaning I had to slightly enlarge the hole I drilled to replace the strap peg, but instead of a 12mm drill, I used a 12mm reamer and that was JUST enough to make the job doable, the thread of the jack has a hole in it, so if you have an old guitar string, you can loop it through and use that to pull the jack to the hole and use your other had inside the guitar to get it straight, I used some welding rod to do it. The jack was still snug enough for my liking, with an 12MM drill, it will be almost snug enough that it would tap the wood slightly if you were to twist it in, which you could do, since the cable is connected by a headphone jack and not hard-wired to the pickup.Honestly, the pickup sounds really nice, and that is me using it on a cheap guitar, going through an old 10watt marshall practice amp. There are two volume knobs, one controls the volume of the magnetic pickup, and the other controls the volume of the included condenser mic that plugs into the side of the pickup. The mic sounds really nice, but is highly susceptible to feedback, as microphones are (so not really the fault of the pickup, just a consequence of using a mic), so you will need to be mindful of your amp positioning in relation to where you are facing. The mic and humbucker can be used simultaneously, and mixed to achieve a balance of tones.I haven't had a chance to actually record anything with this pickup, but it is in the works. If I find anything contrary to this review, I will update. This is an active pickup with pre-amps, you will need a 9-volt battery. The battery life on pickup pre-amps tends to be quite long, so this is not something that I'm worried about, and nothing new to the electric/acoustic world, most acoustics with built in pickups use batteries as well.

Arrived on time, nicely packaged. The instructions were minimal but adequate. Needed to loosen strings due to the thickness of the unit, but once in place, the clamps were easy to tighten. The battery compartment is held in place with Velcro. A adhesive backed Velcro pad is provided that is secured to the instrument. The battery compartment is stuck to this pad. I placed it inside the body at the bottom of the sound hole. For now, the amp jack just comes out the sound hole, but has the option to be mounted in a 12mm hole drilled into the body. I have not done this yet but am planning to do so. Volume control is accessed through the sound hole. Easy enough to reach but not something one can adjust while playing. Sound is good with the mic adding a bit more dynamic range. A tool is provided to adjust each individual string pickup for balance but so far have not felt the need to make any adjustments. Overall a simple way of adding amplified sound to your acoustic with no permanent modifications to the instrument unless you choose to drill a hole for the amp jack. The Velcro pad is of course stuck to the instrument but can be removed if desired but cannot then be reused. Leaving the Velcro on the instrument is not an issue if placed inside the body. Playability is not affected and acoustic only sound is essentially unchanged with the unit installed. The Donner pickup system is a good value and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to add electric pickup to their guitar.
