Like the title says. This is NOT the correct model for my 287707 engine, which is the older red covered 14.5 hp engine. This starter came with a plastic gear installed and a spare plastic one, but no metal gear. I had to spend about a half hour taking the gear off of the old starter and taking this plastic one off and swapping it out. It is a tedious process getting the locking ring off and back on. So now I have a new starter but an old gear which hopefully holds up. On the bright side this fixed the slow cranking problem and the new starter works well after all that. I highly recomend ordering a different one that you verify has the metal gear already installed if you have an older engine.
