This is a useful tool that I've seen used on testing videos (other brands) and wanted to get one myself. There's a few different ways that you can use this. First, photoelectric which uses a visual method to identify the RPMs. Second, you can use it via contact method which is what it sounds like. You touch it to the rotating object and it will count that way. Finally, there's what they call a contact line which measures the speed and length of wire, cable and rope. By pressing a button, you can identify the maximum, minimum and last value as well and store it. Why use this? One reason is to measure the speed of tools (bench grinder, bandsaw, grinder, drill, etc.), and that's what I use it for. It came in a pretty good storage case, and included a small manual. I'm happy with it.

Very accurate useful tool....There's a few different methods to use this tool.I preferer the index marking stickers for a quick measurement.This great for tweaking and tuning DIY bench tools like bench grinders, buffing wheels, etc...Seems dead on accurate enough for me....
