It's getting harder for me to look at fine details than it used to be. Reading glasses help, and so do magnifying glasses, but sometimes you need technology to assist in the effort.This electronic microscope allows you to look at fine details within a limited perimeter of the object under view. I used a U.S. Penny to demonstrate. Look at the various images. I show a penny on the view plate, along with the camera view. The text on the screen(s) shows magnification levels. You can magnify up to 4x without lifting the view plate. Zoom features are electronic, using two buttons to zoom in and out. The focus control is on the camera portion, under the view screen. If you need to zoom in closer, you can adjust the view plate height to bring the object optically closer to the camera, and then you still have the option of up to 4x digital zoom. I also demonstrate the effect of a change in the view plate height.The lighting system is useful, but mainly for objects that do not have a glossy appearance to them, as the tightly directed LED lighting will cast straight back to the camera. This is one reason why I took a star away from my review. You can turn down the brightness of the lighting using a control on the side of the screen. The camera is sensitive enough to light to still let you see your item rather well using ambient room lighting and the LED off. I find that preferable to the built-in LED lighting for most things.The view plate isn't very big. The penny in the pictures will provide scale. So, if you want to view larger objects, like full circuit boards, you will only be able to view to about two inches in from the edge of the board. This was another reason why I took one star off the review.Otherwise, I do find it useful for small objects where I need to identify details or numbers on parts. It sits on the workbench, ready to be used as needed.

Digital microscope is easy to use, well built and provides good magnification levels for all types of small items and very small text. Customer Support successfully aided in fixing an issue when connecting to a computer via a software update. Highly recommend.

Nice magnifier. 1x to 4x digital zoom is shown. Image compares well from the LCD to the PC image. Catches color well, plenty of brightness. Image Ok with no LED light.
