I got this DO Meter for a scientific research project I’m performing on a state-level analysis of interior streams in my home country. The design of this device is excellently thought out and compact for in-the-field use but calibrating this thing was something of a challenge. Perhaps I made the mistake from prior devices where simply calibrating it using a dissolvable solid in tap water was sufficient. I cannot get a decent or accurate reading from this meter. DO readings have a range much higher than is acceptable for my research. I suspect that this meter is best suited for aquarium enthusiasts, hobbyists and the like. Field scientific researchers be warned that this tool will require the utmost care in accurate calibration.

At last a potential assistant to help me determine my need for oxygenation of wort, post brewing.I've had great luck oxygenating my cooled wort before adding yeast for fermentation.That's the good news.Unfortunately, constantly buying oxygen tanks to infuse the wort has become a vexing expense. I really have no clue as to whether the time, effort and money I spend infusing oxygen into each brew is really making any difference. Because of all the expense of ingredients, equipment and time putting a brew together from scratch, I've been unwilling to stop adding the oxygen and potentially face stuck fermentation (which could be caused by different things) or flavor and quality loss --- if my usual addition of bottled O2 has been really been a necessary component contributing to my success in making beer.Now, I'll have a way to get tangible, not subjective, indications of oxygen levels before adding the extra O2. Or, at least I'll have a bit more encouragement to withhold the extra O2 with perhaps less risk of losing the brew.Or maybe I'll find things are much better without giving the yeast some extra source of O2 to start doing their job. In any event, there are so many unknown factors in my brewing that getting one more data point for my experimenting can't hurt! (I hope).Anyway, back to this O2 meter kit.Very comprehensive kit, includes batteries and chemicals for making electrolyte testing solution. Also includes 6 extra replacement Oxygen permeable membrane film caps. And a small transparent container to use for testing. 3.6 foot long cable for the probe is more than enough to get into my corny (cornelius) kegs I use for brewing.And - a delightful surprise - a fairly comprehensive included 'manual' (long length of folded paper) in understandable English. I've gotten too many device instructions in languages I don't understand recently, so this is great!Now, if only they had not shoved the instructions into the box so brusquely, it may have arrived somewhat less wrinkled. see my photos. But I'm more than willing to accept that minor inconvenience, if the device works with beer wort.Seems to be competitively priced for similar units on Amazon.I will update this review if anything unexpected occurs.Recommended on 5.13.24
