**Review: DEWALT Mechanic Tool Set, 247-Piece, 1/4 in., 3/8 in. and 1/2 in. Drive, SAE, Ratchets, Sockets, Hex Keys, Combination Wrenches, Polish Chrome Finish**As a professional carpenter, I rely heavily on a wide range of tools for various tasks. The DEWALT Mechanic Tool Set, with its 247 pieces, has proven to be an invaluable addition to my toolkit.**Cons:**1. **Tool Retention:** The primary drawback is that the tools tend to get loosened and fall from their place in the case. This can be frustrating, especially when transporting the set or moving it around the job site. A more secure grip or retention system would significantly enhance the overall experience.Despite the minor issue with tool retention, the DEWALT Mechanic Tool Set, 247-Piece, is an outstanding choice for anyone in need of a comprehensive and durable tool set. Its high-quality construction, versatility, and ergonomic design make it a valuable asset for professional carpenters and DIY enthusiasts alike. I highly recommend this set, with the hope that future iterations will improve the grip and retention of the tools in the case.

This is an awesome set. If you work on cars it has everything you need for sockets, Allen wrenches, and screw bits. It's a great starter set when you have nothing. The quality is obvious and you get what you pay for. Good tools for a decent price. I am stoked I no longer have to go to my father's place for tools which are basically scattered in a tool box. Lol. I love my tool set.

Esta bien, la combinación entre métrico y sae le da mucho juego. Se echa en falta una tabla de conversión que la he tenido que descargar yo

Huge tool assortment, SAE & Metric sockets and wrenches.... carrying case is sturdy and every tool has a secure spot in the case.... some of the tiny sockets like to come out to play after the case has been carried... I cut a piece of eighth-inch thick cardboard to place inside before I close the case.... now everything STAYS where it should.

This set came in and I was amazed by how clean everything looked. The set up is very nice with how and where they place each socket and ratchet. The ratchets are very smooth and the 72 tooth makes a big difference from my previous 50 or so tooth ratchet. The case is very nice and sturdy. The metal locking mechanisms for the case is extraordinary and keeps it tight. The only down side I'd say is whenever I open my case 2-3 sockets don't stay in their spots and fall for the top part of the case which is not a big deal at all and does not steer away from its overall quality of the tools themselves, just something worth mentioning. An amazing set for sure.

If this review provides the info you need before buying, please consider marking it "Helpful", as that's very helpful for reviewers!EDIT 03/03/2022 - added a Con to the review. Still 5 stars though.Pros:- a huge number of tools, everything you need to work on cars! This includes your normal 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive sockets (regular and deep) and ratchets and a short AND long extension for each drive size, which is awesome!- Everything is HEAVY and tough.- The ratchets are super solid and feed really great in your hand as well. The ratchets do not have a release button, sockets just push on and pull off, but I haven't had any issues with sockets falling off. I would have to go freeze in my garage to see if there's a ball detent on them, but they stay on and that's all I care about. They have 72 teeth (which most quality ratchets start at nowadays), so not as fine control as Snap On's (ridiculously expensive) ratchets for example, but they feel like really good quality, with no free play.- includes a set of combination wrenches, and having bought an identical long 14mm wrench from Partsource in the past, I can tell you a single one of these wrenches retails for $10-15 EACH.- the case is HUGE. When the box arrived at my house, I thought "why did they put it in such a massive box?" It turns out the set is big, and incredibly heavy. I weighed it at 33.5 pounds. This says good things about the quality, but makes it a bit unwieldy to take to a junkyard to get parts for example. The latches are metal, 2 on the front and one on each side. The whole thing feels like it would survive an earthquake or explosion, but man is it heavy.- YES THE SOCKETS CLICK IN AND DO NOT FALL OUT. I replaced my previous Mastercraft Maximum socket set specifically because all the sockets fell out all the time which drove me insane. I'm not having that problem with this set, thank goodness. If they did fall out, I would have returned this set already. I literally gave my old one to a friend because it annoyed me so much.- DeWalt Mechanic's tools come with a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY, fulfilled directly by DeWalt, just call the number given on their website and they will replace any included tool that breaks FOR ANY REASON. There are no limitations on this as far as I can see, so hammer the wrenches as much as you need to in order to break them rusty fasteners loose!- the price on this set (247 piece mechanic's tool set) is different right now, I imagine because all the stock in the Amazon warehouse is cleared out and it's only third party sellers. When I bought it, the set was $203 with Prime shipping, and I consider that an excellent price for what you're getting. I searched around at Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. before purchasing, and this was the best deal anywhere locally or online. If this set comes around at this price again, I would 100% recommend it for anyone who is in the market for a complete set of hand tools.Cons:- there is no socket driver attachment for the ratchet, but the bits fit in the 1/4" SAE socket in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation I did. I would prefer there to be a dedicated receiver for the bits, but that does work.

I bought a new project car (BMW E30) and decided to treat myself to a new set of tools and hopefully the last set I'll ever need to buy.DeWalt has a reputation for making long lasting hand tools and back it up with the lifetime guarantee. I can't imagine ever needing to replace these tools but it's reassuring to know I'm covered. The spanners offset head design is great with tight tolerances - This reduces chances of rounding off bolts and makes them narrow enough for those hard to get to places. The shafts have a subtle ergonomic shape along the length that prevents slippage. It looks dead straight but has very slight ridges for your fingers. You wouldn't pick it in the photos but the end result is that they feel good in your hands during use. You'll understand when you hold them. The engraving on the tools is easy to read and the etching gives good tactile response. Only one of my spanners had a small divot out of it's head (see picture) and probably shouldn't have slipped through quality control. I'll contact DeWalt to see about replacing it. Otherwise the chrome finish is exceptional.I have put a number of the sockets to use already and they performed well. The ratchets have a nice firm 'click' during operation. The width of the handles is just right too, they feel solid & durable. The case is laid out well and holds all the pieces firmly in place - Mine turned up with just one set of Alan keys loose after international shipping. The buckles are metal and the case feels like it could stand up to a lot of punishment. To sum it up - This tool set is filled with just about everything the home mechanic could need without a bunch of unnecessary filler items. A great selection of useful empirical & metric pieces in a quality case. You'd be hard pressed to find a better set for the money. You'd really need to step up to Snap-On (or equivalent $) for a better tool. These are fraction of the price and amazing value for the quality.FYI - the case does not come with the colour coded numbering. I added that with a couple of paint pens, it improves visibility at a glance and gave my OCD something to do for a couple of hours.
