I use it with my shop vac to keep the work area clean. As it really is a corner of my two car garage which hasn’t seen a car in quite awhile. I bought it after setting up a tabletop wood lathe. It produces tons of wood shavings & wood dust. With is I keep my wife happy by cleaning up after myself, after playing on the lathe. Being stainless steel is easy to clean. After dumping it several times I checked the filter on the shop vac and it was not clogged in the least. Good investment, saves me buying filters for the shop vac.

I was really surprised how nice this collector is. It even comes with a static dissipation chain on the bottom! It is a pleasure to use. Each part seems solid and well designed for the function. Will it take care of an entire shop of workers? No. Will it take good care of a single worker? My gosh, yes!If you want to keep, your shop cleaner, or use fewer shop vac filters, or fewer cleaning of your filters on you shop vac, I highly recommend this dust collector. It is like having a friendly little R2D2 in the corner looking after the dust.Great job Dewalt!

The separator was shipped in the factory box and arrived undamaged. Assembly consists of attaching the cycle-separator to the lid with six screws. The wheels are installed with four screws. Total time to unbox and assemble was around ten minutes. The casters appear to be more than robust enough to support the separator. Fit and finish was impressive.Connections - there have been some reviews complaining about the diameter of the hose that came with the dust separator and with connecting it to a shop vac. I connected the cyclone to my large Bosch shop vac with a standard 2 1/2" hose that comes with most full size shop vacs, without the need for fittings or adapters. The shop vac hose fit over the top fitting for the cyclone. For connections to hand-held power tools, my miter saw, and multiple utility accessories, I use a 30' Cen-Tec, 1 1/4" hose. These hoses have quick connect adapters that can fit just about most sanders, saws, routers, miter-saws, etc. This hose fits perfectly inside the intake port on the cyclone with no adapters or fittings required. For the previously listed tools, you are not looking for high volumes of air flow. You want high velocity air movement which can easily move dust through your tools to the dust collector. High velocity is best achieved with a reasonably smaller hose, and the 1 1/4" Cen-Tec hose is perfect. I use the same Cen-Tec hose with an extension wand and a floor attachment to clean up sawdust, chips, and shavings from the floor around my lathes. With the Bosch shop vac set to 50%, it still does a great job with this hose. The Dewalt dust separator probably does a bit better at dust separation than my Dust Deputy did. That can be difficult to quantify because I use a HEPA bag in the shop vac. The Dewalt separator appears to have more air flow too, but I could not quantify that without a meter. Even without a scientific comparison, the Dewalt separator definitely gets the job done.Advantages over the Dust Deputy - from my perspective: The ten gallon stainless steel canister adds very little overall height, but the additioal capacity over the 5 gallon Dust Deputy is a big plus. The Dewalt lids securely clamps down to the collection canister. This is a big plus if you are mobile and moving around a space with the separator, as the lid on the Dust Deputy is not secured all that tightly. The casters on the Dewalt also help with mobility, vs the Dust Deputy with is just a bucket on the floor. (Dust Deputy does offer a 5 gallon unit with casters and a stainless steel ten gallon separator with casters too.)Most dust separators work reasonably well, with minor difference relative to efficiency and air flow. If you could qunatify the differences between most of them, it is unlikely that it would make a difference in the real world useage of them. The Dewalt separator is well made, and it works as you would expect it to. It's a good deal for the price, and online reviews are very positive.

This works as hoped. While the plastic cyclone is anti static, the hose is not. However it is great at cleaning itself, even removing the hose and holding it up to suction. It's very light weight and yet feels sturdy. I'm glad I purchased as I'm enough of a hobbiest to need it, but not enough to need a permanently installed solution. I really like the portability.

True to other reviews, this separates the dust very well as expected, and keeps the shop vac filter nice and clean. Almost no dust makes it into the vac - all goes to this separator. The wheels roll very nicely on the ground with a "quality feel" which of course is subjective, but they feel smooth. The best part is that it keeps the suction consistent on the table saw and has really leveled up my dust game.Assembles easy peasy.Looks cool with the polished finish - some bling for the shop. The rigid vac looks sad next to it.Love this thing - Wish I'd gotten it earlier although the price did come down on it so that is a plus.

Hooking this up to my dewalt shopvac was the best thing I ever did in my workshop. The alternative would have been to buy a dust collection system with a very long hose, for a lot more money than this cost. So far, the vacuum itself, and its filter, do not have a single spec of dust in them. That's after planing a pile of walnut, the process of which was previously leaving the workshop completely covered in wood dust and shavings. Its not cheap for what it is, but light and mobile, and I can easily move it from machine to machine.
