  • Durability in nail embedded wood
  • Long bit life with hardened alloy steel
  • Quick bit changes with a 7/16" ball groove shank

Product Description

Professional contractors rely on DEWALT Power Ship Augers when they need to bore clean holes for wiring, pipes and more. These ultra-heavy-duty bits feature hardened dual cutting edges for durability against nail infested wood. Hollow center flutes eject chips quickly for fast cuts, while an aggresive self-feeding screw-tip pulls the bit easily through tough materials. Standard 7/16" Quick Change Shank allows for fast bit changes in quick change ready tools like the new 60V MAX* BRUSHLESS CORDLESS QUICK-CHANGE STUD AND JOIST DRILL (DCD471) while preserving backward compatability with chuck based tools. * Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 60 volts. Nominal voltage is 54 Available in sizes ranging from 5/8 in. to 1-3/8 in. diameter in both 6" lengths and 17" lengths.

The bit was a drag on Rypbi hammer drill. That’s the drill bits fault. I swapped over to my Dewalt impact. Right speed, ripped right through the width of a 2 x 12 with minor deflection from the tool. Price was lower than the box store and shipped quickly. Lead-in spiral design really pulls the tool forward into the workpiece easily and exactly where you put it.

I got it to drill holes in a stump to burn it. But I had to buy a 7/16” nut driver in order for it to fit my drill, which wasn’t powerful enough. So I now need to buy an impact driver so I can use it. I wasn’t really able to use it. But I will update the review once I’m able to.

Hard time ripping out a tree stump, needed a starter hold for sawsall and chainsaw. This cut right through it with a little muscle, finally broke through to both sides of the stump.

I put it on a hammer roll and it was able to drill through concrete even though it’s been rated for wood. It’s pretty sharp.

I had used a different auger bit which could not handle the stump, but this bit went through it like butter. Very, very pleased with the outcome.

I got this to drill foot-deep holes in four large stumps to accelerate their decomposition. The trees were 80-90 foot poplars that had to go, and while we paid a good amount to having them taken down, I didn’t want to spend a ton more to have them ground out. I’m also in no hurry to have them gone.So I drilled the holes—about 70 in each stump, and filled the holes with magnesium sulfate in hopes that it they would be easily removed in about a year. It’s been about 3 months, and I’m hopeful.Long story, but all to say that the drill bit was exactly the right tool for the job.

This bit is perfect if you have a large stump and are looking to use something like Spectracide Stump Remover or a similar product. For stump removers to work it is very important to follow the instructions and this is the mistake most people make when they use those products and find it doesn't work. You need to get several holes in to the stump that are an inch wide and preferably about 10 to 12 inches deep, and then another set of holes at an angle from the side to connect to the vertical holes. It is important the holes be about an inch wide and 10 to 12 inches deep for the stump remover to really work at its best and this is definitely the drill bit for that job. I took down an absolutely massive tree with a stump that was at its narrowest 5' wide and up to 9' wide at its widest point. Due to its location and size a stump grinder or burning it out simply isn't an option so a stump remover compound was really my only option, even if it will probably take quite some time. Luckily this bit was more than up to the task of at least getting the holes in the trunk to start the process and I was impressed with how quickly and easily this bit was able to handle the job.

Like many others, I have bought the 1" bit to fight a freshly cut stump. I found the bit to be very sturdy and mostly invincible. I have used a Harbor Freight low-speed drill to drive it, while squatting on top of the drill and using the quads part of my leg to prop the horizontal handle whenever the bit got stuck and I needed an extra torque. A few times, I was able to use a socket on a breaker slide bar to drive the bit back to the surface when the drill could no longer move it back. The bit stayed mostly sharp through drilling 40 holes at full length all the way into a clay/mud under the stump. At that point it was not feeding nearly as well, but it was easy enough to re-sharpen using a basic small flat file.Towards the very end of the project, it just stopped feeding altogether. When I pulled it back, the top screw tip used for feeding the bit broke off. I assume this happened because the bit got dull again and I was drilling into the most dens and wet part of the stump, while not pressing on the bit hard enough. Basically, the screw kept going while the bit stayed still, effectively twisting the tip off. Without the tip, the bit is of no use - it would not feed at all. I've tried welding a new screw tip, but that one broke after two more holes. At that point I was around 85-90 holes.Overall, I think this is a quality tool. But seeing other people reporting the same issue with the broken tip, you might want to be mindful of the keeping the bit sharp and maintaining a good pressure to make sure you can maintain a proper feed rate. And maybe go a bit slower.

Suggested by a friend to drill holes in which to place food spikes for trees. Does a FANTASTIC job, efficient and speedy. You will move along like greased lighting. My 20 volt DeWalt drill pairs magnificentlywith this bit. Highly recommended, especially if you have lots of (hungry) trees.
