After using this trimmer, I will never go back to gas power. I use it for light duty grass trimming but have cut woody weeds with no problem. Appears charge lasts about an hour. Did purchase an Echo speed feed head which I installed right away. Very happy with this and love not having to pull a rope, mess with gas or worry about winterizing.

I used this all summer and am pleased with the performance. I have ~400 feet to edge and when the soil is relatively dry I can do that on one charge and have 2 bars showing when I am done. Damp earth gums up in the guard, requiring it to be cleared at intervals, and the mud loads the motor, shortening the battery life. But I can still get it done on one charge if I keep the guard mostly free of mud. The guard was designed by lawyer and not an engineer / user and so has to be modified to make the unit usable. As delivered it prevents the blade from getting deep enough and gums up with soil constantly. The string trimmer seems to be fine. I am no expert on this part as I have only a small amount of trimming to do.I note that upon receipt, and after the 1st battery charge, the battery didn't last very long. I had to charge it 3 times for the 400 ft. After the 2nd charge, the energy storage seems to have improved nicely. The guard modification to rid the machine of the unnecessary load probably helped in this regard.I also note that the grease bushing in the trimmer attachment somehow worked its way up the shaft and jammed the indexing button so that it no longer worked. A deep socket and a hammer drove it back to its home and all is well. How that bushing moved I do not know.

I have the Dewalt 60v Stringtrimmer ( the "17" model that accepts attachments). I live on a 200 acre resort in the mountains of Northern California. When I talk about weedwhacking here, I don't mean suburban lawns we have native grasses and weeds that can grow six feet tall, intermixed with blackberry bushes, Star thistle, etc. (Heavy Cutting). I am amazed with this string trimmers ability to handle what we ask of it. WE DO Have a T35 head on it running Husquvarna's Titanium .095 line. Later in the season we will be using multi blade heads on it that I am confident it can handle. Now about the batteries...We have a fairly large Facilities Dept. where we have 3 Stihl weedwhackers, a twin handled four stroke Honda, and 2 Shindawa's. The Dewalt will keep up with any of these except the Honda (it's a beast). Where the Dewalt falls short is on run time, any of our gas weedeaters will run for 45 mins. on a tank of gas. The Dewalt will drain two 9ah batteries in the same length of time. So....we own four (4) of the 9AH batteries which give us a total of about an hour and a half of run time. That's pricey.I haven't had these batteries operating long enough to know what kind of longevity they will have. I do know that they often have to cool down after using them before they can be recharged. This can take an hour to an hour and a half of cooling time before they are charged which requires another hour on a 60v speed charger. With roughly $1000 worth of batteries to run a weedwhacker, we need these batteries to last awhile. I hope that they do.The deal is...we think it's worth it... because of how much quiter the Dewalt is, it creates much less disturbance in areas near where guests are staying, it's still noisy but not nearly as noisy as the gas weed whackers.

First of all I have been using gas trimmers for a long time. I’ve also spent plenty of money fixing and maintaining them. Just wish something like this would have been in the picture sooner. My last gas trimmer was leaking fuel all over my driveway and gave me the worst time starting. So this purchase was prompted by my frustration! Now for the great part once assembled ( the instructions leave a lot to be desired) and charged up this trimmer worked great on a test area. Finally yesterday I ran it all around my house. At first in low gear and it made trimming my grass as simple and easy as my gas trimmer. Then I added some of my old attachments (edger, hedge clippers) on high gear and it did the job better than my old gas trimmer. Yes, you can use other attachments on this model which was what I wanted to do. Never expecting my older craftsman attachments to work. This item was highly rated and I can see why it is strong and capable. Looks very sturdy and has a solid feel. The battery is a bit heavy and may take some time to get used to but no heavier than a gas trimmer. The battery life was exceptional also, ran it for a solid two hours with minimal battery burn. I am so glad that I made purchase and went green! Don’t think twice spend your money once on a solid item once.

Installation was easy, put the handle on, and extended the cutting guard from 15 to 17". Based on other reviews, I did open up the head and pulled all the string out, then found that it was strung correctly. The trimmer itself works perfectly, and is very strong. The 9amp battery that came with it works perfect for my yard. I have not runout of battery yet.The trimmer itself is not too heavy, but once the battery gets put on, it does feel a little heavy. When it's working, the weight is not too bad, kind of feels a little lighter.Overall I am very happy with the trimmer, glad I bought it, and the price was right.

I shopped around and was not disappointed with my choice. So much so that I then ordered a second battery. I jury-rigged a shoulder harness using a strong camera strap (NIKON) and was happy right away.
