This was a replacement for the original Pittman arm and the idler arm on a 96 Grand Marquis. Both ends (the ball joint and the spline) were pulled free using a U shaped Pittman arm puller with a fine threaded bolt and an impact driver. I sprayed penetrating oil a day before then tightened and loosened the bolt several times until it popped free.I don’t recommend even trying a pickle fork for this job.

Just wanted to point out that the idle arm we received looks nothing like the picture on the description or the one I removed from my car. Mid process of changing these I had to run to the autoparts to buy another idle arm. I was able to use the pitman arm. So double the expense.Inconvenient and annoying. And now I paid for a set and only got use of 1 of the 2 parts even though the listing said it would work on my car.
