I was looking for options to create pass-throughs for power cables for a recent project, and this kit really offered a convenient solution. It includes 10 grommets, approximately 2 inches in diameter, with spring loaded inserts, and a matching hole saw. The diameter of the grommet is slightly undersized, so the 2-inch (50 mm) hole saw worked well for a snug fit.I found the hole saw to be of average quality. It works but I suspect it will be overtasked if drilling several holes, more than the kit allows, into thick material. By design, it’s limited to cutting ¾-inch thick material without risking tear-out or requiring finishing the cut from the backside. Additionally, the teeth have a small set or offset, resulting in a tight fit between the blade and the resulting plug. That tight fit creates a lot of friction (the ¾-inch plywood I was cutting started smoking), which will dull the blade over time. The hole saw does come with a convenient spring-loaded insert to push the plug out once the hole is drilled. That’s perhaps the one positive. My recommendation is to have a back up hole saw that matches the thickness of the material you need to cut. The grommets will work fine with anything that is 2 inches in diameter.

I ordered these desk grommets for a desk I'm building. These grommets come with a hole saw drill bit that works great. I recommend drilling from both sides to prevent the wood from splintering. Once installed, the grommets fit snuggly and looks great. The caps also give you several options to either close the grommet completely or to allow space for several cords. Highly recommend.

I moved my living room TV from a floor TV stand to a wall mount above the fireplace. There are some built-in cabinets on the side and I wanted to run the power and signal wires behind them to make the installation look clean and professional. I've used grommets like these before to add holes to desks and shelving and this set even came with the correct size hole saw bit. I didn't search for mine this time and used the bit included in this set. You have to go slow so you don't "burn" the wood and it helps to stop a couple times and vacuum out the sawdust in the hole to let the teeth cut better. In my case, the cabinet is pretty thick (see photo) and I still ended up burning the last section. I was a little frustrated that the bit "tore" through the laminated wood at the end. Thankfully this was on the inside of the cabinet and isn't visible with the doors closed. In the future, I may not use this included bit and will find my higher-quality name-brand hole saw set. For casual use where thick, finished wood is not a concern, the red one should be just fine.

The tool cuts well and the grommets fit perfectly.

The grommets themselves are not heavy-duty, but then again, you'll probably have a couple of spares if you do happen to break one. They come in a plain brown corrugated cardboard box. The hole saw is a top quality bi-metal type, so it should work well even if your desk is metal. I do not expect it would work well on a stone countertop, but it's possible. It even has a spring to (help) eject the plug once you have cut all the way through. (Well, I was impressed.)The grommet top pops off, so you can easily remove the top, put huge plugs through the hole, then put the top on to contain the cord. And there's a shutter to limit the size of the opening, which is about 1/8 of the circle before you start to close it.

These were easy to install and work well. The plastic is a little on the thinner side. These will work well for spaces that do not need frequent changing (fixed cords)

I'm making some built-ins for audio/video gear and wanted a clean way for cables to run from the cabinets below to the shelving above, so I ordered these grommets. They're just what I needed and what I expected. The portion of the grommet that inserts into the desktop or counter is just slightly under 2" in diameter--you can see from my photo that my calipers show it as being about 0.035" under 2", which is what you want so you aren't fighting to fit it into a true 2" diameter hole. The plastic construction seems sturdy enough for the purpose of the grommet and the spring-loaded opening for cables is nice to have the option of having it fully open or only partially-open to accommodate a variety of cables. The included hole saw is about as cheap as you can get, but I imagine it would work long enough to drill some holes in a wood desktop. Be aware that it won't drill through anything thicker than just under 1" unless you drill from both sides. And my calipers indicate that the diameter of the bit is also undersized, though with cheap bits like this one, there's usually enough variance in their runout that the hole they make is inevitably larger than the diameter of the bit, so that may not cause a problem. I will, however, be using one of my high-quality hole saws to make the holes for these grommets.
