I was pretty skeptical about this dee zee ladder for the price considering the next level up contender was a GOBI for roughly 3 times as much. But what it lacks for "branding" it makes up for pratically everything else. If your like who doesn't really care about which brand or company makes what, as long as they hold up as a piece for the price and quality, this is it. It was pretty straight forward install minus the initial time it took to line everything up, which was in small part my fault because I am pretty ocd/anal about placement and straightness. Aside from the fact that it was missing a bolt for one of the holes to fit into, the dee zee team cared enough to send me another one right away and got here in about a week or less, thats good service for a pretty affordable item! I want to say A+ for customer service, A+ for price and a solid B for quality. I tried climbing on it a couple times and it held up and I'm not exactly a skinny person either. Thanks again, Dee Zee, will definitely purchase future products from you guys again for my FJ!

This ladder seemed awesome. Right up until I went to mount it. Now my rig has 4 new holes. One of which tore all the way through. The other 3 felt ready to pull through also. I wanted this to work, but it just destroyed the possibility of a drilled in ladder option. The ladder was ok, the mounting system is horrible however.

Never used this and resold on Kijiji. One thing is you cannot use your back window if you install it. You also have to drill into your door to install. You can only use with factory rim and tire size. Kids will probably climb on it. Probably a pain in the buttox to clean around. Not very practical for me.

It's a good ladder but not a small job to put on. Specifically, I'm dinging it for the expanding inserts used for mounting. I had two that just didn't want to stay in--maybe it's my fault but I'm an avid DIYer and it shouldn't be that hard. In the end, I gave up on those inserts and used 6 self-drilling metal screws at top and bottom. This was easier, made only tiny holes, and actually held. It's a relatively tight fit with a 33" spare but works.Once attached, the ladder is good, strong but blocks the window as you could imagine. There's no way around this but something you should know.

Like most people, I ordered this ladder because of the low price. It was a pain in the ass to install. I am used to working with tools and such but drilling holes into car metal takes good tools. You'll need a powerful drill that plugs into wall (high amp). Battery powered drill won't work. Like someone else wrote, start with the bottom bracket first. In fact, bolt the lower bracket to the ladder and place the unit on the door to get a good idea of where to drill the lower holes. Make sure to open the door completely with the ladder and the lower bracket in place so you can tell how close you go to the left most corner of the door without having any obstruction. Then, mark your holes and start drilling.I have 35 inch spare tire and it actually fit !! Of course, previously, I had to modify the spare tire attachment to make the 35 inch tire fit in place, which had nothing to do with ladder at the time. So...it can be done.Overall, it's not a small job. But, it was very satisfying and now I have a ladder for a very cheap price. Cool.

I was a little skeptical about buying it after reading some bad reviews on the install. I had no issues with the install. It went right on in about an hour and a half and it looks great and is very useable. You will have to buy a drill bit because the hole you have to drill is not a normal size hole and most people will not have this bit in the tool box. So plan on spending another $10 on that. If you follow the directions and you have a little common sense then you can install this without any issues. I believe that the bad reviews are from people that rushed through the install and did not use the proper tools.TIP: don't take the spare tire off. Install it with the tire on to make sure you get a good fit.

I decided to get a Ladder for my 2007 FJ Cruiser and didn't want to spend the $340 for the GOBI ladder. I saw several reviews on this ladder and it works great. I'm glad I saved the money by getting the DeeZee. It fits with a 33" Spare Mud Terrain, however it's a little tight. Easy install and supports at least 200lbs, nobody I know is heavier than that. Obviously the only downside to the ladder is I am unable to open the rear window anymore to create a nice flow when I have the windows down. But I have already used the ladder to get on the roof to wax it.

This ladder works great and looks great. A rare find to buy a "discount" product (compared to Gobi FJ Cruiser ladders) that is still a good product. In regards to some of the bad reviews for this ladder - this ladder does take some handyness to install, and that might be where they faced some issues. MAKE SURE YOU DRY FIT EVERYTHING FIRST, and everything lines up and installs well. The crushable inserts that people have complained about stripping or spinning, were installed easily by me, and I did not have any problems with them. Use the correct drill bit size listed in the instructions (25/64), the installation tool provided, and a 18V impact driver with socket: and you wont have any problems. 4 holes are required to be drilled into your FJ's rear door. The holes are all on the inside and underside of the door, so if you decide later to remove the ladder, it won't be an issue (you could put some plastic plugs in the holes if you wanted). The instructions state to line up the ladder approximately 2 3/4" away from the edge of the door. This is an estimate, because everyone's car and spare tire is different. Mine ended up at about 2 1/4". I did not take my spare off while installing. Again - DRY FIT EVERYTHING FIRST!!! Attach the lower bracket to the car first. Then bolt the ladder to the lower bracket and the upper bracket to the ladder. Then move the ladder around to where you want it vertically before drilling the top two holes for the upper bracket. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to install.
