Your cart is empty.A finely pigmented rich sepia colored water-based ink. It's great for all kinds of drawings and works well with a brush or dip pen. In washes, it handles like a watercolor, with good layering and lifting capabilities. The rich color resembles traditional walnut-based inks, but will not fade. The warm character of walnut ink is reminiscent of drawings by Rembrandt

What I don't like about this ink: It's very transparent and light, I wish it was darker. What I DO like: Everything else! This ink, when used with a leonardt principal or hunt imperial on 100% cotton vellum is a dream! It's unlike any other ink I have. It doesn't bleed or feather. It doesn't flow from the pen too quickly, I can achieve the finest hairlines. Normally when you come off of a shade into a hairline sometimes the flow doesn't stop with other inks, but this ink lessens it's flow immediately, allowing for amazing control. It's thin like a water color ink would be, but I have water color inks and they will flow from the pen like a fountain, giving you very fat hairlines. I'm not sure what the secret ingredient is but I definitely recommend this ink to all pointed pen calligraphers.

I like the fact that it is a delicate colour and flows well off a brush. I use it with my water colour paints.

The jar also leaked very easily. The ink is a pretty color but works best with watercolor for washes not for water resistance. Didnt expect it to be but the jar made a huge mess.

I'd say the only difficulty is that the ink really isn't waterfast being walnut ink. So layering it is possible, but be careful. It is my new favorite addition. It's got this warmth to it and makes excellent monotone images. I also like to use it for watercolors that have a "pop of color". So mostly walnut ink with a bit of other paint. If you're looking for an ink with a nostalgic feel this is a good choice.

Apparently it is not a true 'walnut' ink and uses dye pigments, but does the job pretty similar to one and is supposed to be friendlier for nibs. I love the brown hue it has. I use it with a dip pen and pointed pen nibs. For my Hunt 101 nib, I had to leave the jar open to let the water evaporate for a good 2 days to get it to the right consistency. It's available for lower cost on calligraphy supplies stores like PaperInkArts and JohnNealBookSeller, but having it delivered in 1 day on Prime is unbeatable.

This high quality ink was SO beautiful to draw with! I used it with my bamboo pens to draw with and it had a wonderful flow and color. I highly recommend Daniel Smith for this ink AND their watercolors. OUTSTANDING!! THE BEST!

This is beautiful product and I highly recommend it. Yes, Daniel Smith products are more expensive, but they are high quality and this will likely last me for years. I love the color, the translucency, and how pretty it is when layered. I use a dip pen to draw with and it works very well.

This was one of the very first inks I bought when I started learning dip pen calligraphy. Considering the high quality, the perfect viscosity and flow, and the ease of cleaning it off my nibs, it's a fantastic price, which makes it my favorite practice ink. I never have to thin it; just open the container, dip, and write. It results in writing with such wonderful character, and I think yields a fun vintage feel to the finished product. I highly recommend this brand of walnut ink and also recommend it as a good choice for beginners to learn.

I used this ink in a cheap notebook with very thin, gritty paper, as well as on a flashcard. In both instances, I was able to achieve very thin hairlines with minimal feathering on the downstrokes. The ink bottle is very wide and allows plenty of space to dip multiple pens at once. With just one dip, I was able to write several letters or a pair of short words, while achieving the ombre-effect of the brown's hue. On creme-coloured paper, the ink looks dark brown, but on white paper, the ink is midrange with dark brown and tan on a few places. Regardless of the paper, it is easy to tell that the ink is brown when compared to the black India ink on the photo (I used a Nikko G nib in both samples). I am very pleased with this ink, as it also writes very smoothly. My only complaint is that the ink spills from the bottle quite easily, even when tightly closed, so I would reccomend using a dinky dip.

The Best of Walnut/Iron Gall/Sepia inks. Be sure to shake the bottle to ensure the sediment on the bottom of the jar mixes in. This makes all the difference! That said, this is a very beautiful ink with perfect flow/viscosity. It will not drop or bleed or fade. When used with a dip pen, it produces a lovely opaque line which darkens at the edges of each stroke producing a beautifully aged look to the writing. The bottle is easy to dip into but seals well without leaking. Great product. Good price point. For best results, be sure to let the bubbles settle after shaking so as not to get bubbles on your nib.
