Inspired by the most prized, vintage mouthpieces of the 1920s, the Reserve harnesses modern technology, pioneered by D'Addario, to recreate the incomparable craftsmanship found in these legendary works of art. Milled not molded from hard rubber for a higher level of consistency, every Reserve mouthpiece is machined to the strictest tolerances. But make no mistake: the true beauty of Reserve lies beyond its polished angles, glorious curves and proprietary materials to something far more remarkable… its sound. Since the acquisition of Rico by D'Addario & Co., Rico has strengthened its position as the global leader in woodwind reeds and accessories. Rico's state-of-the-art reed research center in Southern California employs a collaboration of agronomists, scientists, and musicians to produce top-quality reeds, including Rico Reserve premium reeds for clarinet and saxophone. Rico reeds are designed to benefit all levels of musicians, from the beginner to the seasoned professional. Many of the world's finest woodwind players perform with Rico reeds, such as Mark Nuccio, Jerry Bergonzi, Chris Potter, Benny Golson, Ernie Watts, Bob Sheppard, Henri Bok, Richie Hawley, Eric Alexander, and many more.

I went to open the mouthpiece box and the whole mouthpiece fell out of the bottom of the box. No wrapping, no tape to keep the box closed—NOTHING. An open mouthpiece sitting in an open box with no protectiion. For $100, D’addario should be ashamed of themselves—or Amazon should. Packaging terrible, playability second to none. This is my favorite mouthpiece. What a beautiful sound, double p like never before.

The X5 model is the best overall clarinet mouthpiece I have ever used. It plays amazingly even throughout all registers. I have had students test play this mouthpiece against other popular models from Vandoren, Fobes, etc... and every single one has chosen the D'Addario X5.

Great mouthpiece! The tone is darker than other mouthpieces. Well-rounded and works awesome for all kinds of music. 10/10 recommend.

My time on the clarinet is limited to approximately two years. I've always had trouble getting the sound I want - or, in many cases, any sound at all with a 2.5 strength reed on the mouthpiece that came with the clarinet. With the first breath through this mouthpiece, I got the sound I wanted...consistently. I never realized how much difference a "specialty" mouthpiece could make.I'm now convinced!

I have 'returned' to the clarinet after a 50 year absence. Yes you read it right, 50 years (don't I sound old).Anyway, about 2000 I 'bought back' my daughters Buffet B12 clarinet as she went to university. I couldn't bear to see it destined for an Ebay lot and some random player.Anyway, it was found in a cupboard towards the end of November. Out it came and off I went. The Buffet mouthpiece was, to say, a challenge for someone of my experience.I tried a Vandoren B40. That was better and interesting. However, reading the reviews and finding this Rico Reserve on offer in Amazon I thought what the heck.Wow. Oh my, so so good, so so easy, so so flexible and deep. Seems to love my 30 year old Rico reeds (yes they are).I actually think I can sit back and just enjoy. At this price it must be the bargain of this century....

This is a great mouthpiece for a person who is looking for an affordable upgrade. I purchased this mouthpiece during my freshman year of my undergraduate degree. After I started playing on the D'Addario (formerly Rico) Reserve Mouthpiece, I was able to develop a rich tone and extend my range significantly. I tested several of these mouthpieces before making my purchase and I found them all to be very consistent. I felt like I knew precisely what I was purchasing even without playing the exact mouthpiece I was getting from Amazon.com.

Fantastic mouthpiece. I would recommend it to every single clarinetist looking to develop a professional tone quality, or a professional who would love a nice, versatile, and controllable mouthpiece for the demands of the classical universe. Articulation is so much easier to emphasize, and it overall beats the Vandoren mouthpieces by a longshot. This piece is also more durable than the Vandorens, because my M13 lyre chipped within the first week of getting it, but the Reserve X0 has held to the day.

I recently began playing the clarinet again, and was having some trouble with my old 5RV vandoren mouthpiece. I ordered the Rico Reserve X0 to try something with a longer facing and narrower tip and I have not been dissapointed. I've tried it with a variety of reeds and settled on Vandoren 56 Rue Lepics. In short, the mouthpiece produces a wonderful tone with nice intonation and responsiveness. While mouthpieces are a rather personal choice, and what works for one player may or may not work for you, they're certainly worth trying out if you're in the market for a new mouthpiece. And for the performance they provide, they're rather a bargain.

I needed to replace my old Morgan mouthpiece and heard that this was a good one. I already love Grand Concert and Rico Reserve reeds, so it was exciting to try a mouthpiece from the same company. Excellent response and clarity of sound. I'm looking forward to getting to know this mouthpiece even better with lots of use.
