  • PORTABLE. The Echo trailer brake controller has a non-invasive install and is easily transferrable from one vehicle to another. It plugs into any 7-way connector, wirelessly links to your smartphone using Bluetooth
  • SMARTPHONE-READY. The Echo brake controller wirelessly syncs with your Apple or Android phone, turning it into a brake controller interface with the Smart Control app (Warning: Avoid distracted driving. Only make adjustments when vehicle is stationary). Note: If Bluetooth connection is lost, the brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings
  • ZERO-TOOL INSTALL. Installing this trailer brake controller is as easy as plugging in a 7-way trailer wiring connector. It requires no tools, no extra wires and no hardware. A locking tab and strap keep it firmly connected. NOTE: Strap stored inside cap
  • HIGHLY RESPONSIVE. Echo uses a triple-axis accelerometer to provide smooth, safe braking. It maintains responsive braking, even when your phone screen is locked, receives incoming calls or if the Bluetooth connection is lost
  • VERSATILE. This electronic trailer brake controller easily transfers between vehicles and trailers and works on virtually any trailer with 1 to 2 axles (2 to 4 brakes). It is also fully compatible with cruise control, anti-lock brakes, low-voltage systems
  • Not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

The CURT Echo mobile trailer brake controller is a Bluetooth enabled device that wirelessly connects to your smartphone and allows you to control and monitor all trailer brake activity right from your device. It features a simple, plug-and-play installation, a portable design to easily switch between vehicles and a highly durable construction to outlast the elements. The Echo brake controller brings your towing experience into the modern age. Powered by Bluetooth, it wirelessly connects to your smartphone without any extra wiring harnesses or modules required. Simply download the Smart Control app on your Apple iOS or Android OS device, plug the Echo into your vehicle and you're ready to start towing. The app allows you to create multiple vehicle-trailer profiles for different towing situations. Installing the Echo trailer brake controller is truly a plug-and-play experience. It is designed to insert in between the vehicle-trailer wiring connection and is compatible with any industry-standard 7-way RV blade plug. This design also allows the Echo to be easily transferred between vehicles, making it perfect for fleet vehicles or multiple-vehicle owners. The Echo mobile trailer brake controller is built to withstand the outdoor elements, whether you're towing through rain, snow or sunshine. It features a potted enclosure. This means the interior of the Echo is filled with an epoxy resin that covers the internal electronics and seals them off from dirt and moisture. This promotes long-lasting durability and also helps reduce vibration. To further enhance the connection, the connector port of the Echo is equipped with a retention strap and locking tab to firmly seat in the 7-way vehicle socket. The CURT Echo mobile brake controller operates with a tri-axis circuit for smooth stops going up or down a hill, and it is able to operate up to two to four trailer brakes at a time (one to two axles). It is also compatible with cruise control and ABS brakes.

This thing is absolute garbage. first you have to create an account with all your information and it needs to have location access and it even wants access to your phone and messages. second it is very difficult to connect then it looses connection. it didn't work with my break, i had to push the big red button on the phone every time I want the trailer break to work. so theh phone needs to be in my lap while I am driving and every time I need to stop I have to look down and push the button, which only applies 100% breaking, sometimes it doesnt apply the breaks at all., which is ok when I am fully loaded. but when I am empty it skids the tires on the trailer. Please do yourself a favor and try anything else before you use this last resort, which there is a good chance it wont work anyway.

I've used this five times to pull my Rockwood GEO Pro FDS. I use a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado 4x4 as a tow vehicle (TV). Four out of the five times have been perfect! I pulled it two hours when I initially bought the camper, and it worked perfect! It was easy to install and adjust. I stayed in the camper RV parking lot and they helped install it and I adjusted the brake settings in the large parking lot.One issue I had.. the last time that I used it, I plugged it in. It would connect and then disconnect almost immediately. I kept getting a notification that it wasn't on. I had to pull over and wiggle the connection and figure out what was going on. I had about a 15-minute drive home. I had to limp it home without the e-brake controller. When I got home, I did put Vasoline on the connection ports. It connected and stayed connected. So I am not sure if this was the issue, if my phone (I need to upgrade..) was the issue, or if the e-brake controller was the issue. Just something to think about.

The app is pretty good but seemed to be picky on my Samsung Galaxy S23. Ended up running the app on a different phone to discover and configure the Echo.Operation was good but frequently lost Bluetooth connectivity with the phone. This didn't concern me because the controller works autonomously from the tow vehicle brake activation signal and the accelerometer sensor readings inside the Echo.Towing a 6000 lb tandem axel 22 foot camper with my 2011 F-150 felt very solid and reassuring with the maximum setting of 80 and a sensitivity setting of 7. The Echo simply worked. When Bluetooth was connected, seeing the reassuring circular bar-graph around the emergency trailer activation button was nice. I'm certain that putting the phone up higher and not sitting on the seat would help greatly and is recommended.I like not having the inconsistencies of an in-cab 3rd party brake controller and having that bump under the dash to hit my knee on. The Echo is completely outside at the 7-way trailer connector. It does protrude quite a bit and recommend just making sure it doesn't get in the way of anything as you tow and turn the trailer. It is quite a bit more money than an in-cab controller you need to install (plus the specific wiring harness for your vehicle). But for the ease of installation and reliable operation I'd pick this over an in-cab wired controller. The only gotcha seems to be getting the phone app permissions right and getting the app to recognize and pair with the Echo which is all done in the app. I've had issues with other apps on this Galaxy S23 which doesn't make it better, but attests to some possible compatibility issues that hopefully get addressed in future app updates.

I use this controller with a Mercedes GL 350, an iPhone 13 Pro, and a Cargo Express 14 foot trailer. I got this product because I did not want to find space for a big controller interface box in my fairly compact under-dash space - partly because I am 6'7" tall and don't want to loose any leg clearance. The setup is just as simple as the YouTube instructional videos say it is. The controller and the Bluetooth app work very reliably while driving. The app is designed to keep the program running without going to sleep (with or without aux power), and it allows you to run the app in the background while you use (and switch back and forth with) a navigation app like Maps or Google maps. Once it has been set up and a profile initiated, it is possible to use the controller without the Bluetooth app (or if you loose connection or shut the app off) although it will just run on the settings of the last used profile. I really don't mess around with the settings while driving, so this is not an issue, although you do loose the ability to command the brakes ON while driving without applying the vehicle brakes just by using the controller (but the brakes still do come on just fine when you hit the vehicle brakes). (Apparently manual activation of just the trailer brakes alone can be used to correct an oversteer slide by the towing vehicle, but I have not had a chance to try that yet - fortunately.) I have only 2 minor complaints. First, the controller is kind of long - so when it is installed on my vehicle (with a low mounted and downward pointing trailer wiring plug) the plug and the trailer connection wire get close to the ground and I need to use a bungie cord to insure ground clearance. Also it is vulnerable to missteps as with loading the vehicle or from dogs climbing into the back of your vehicle. And second, for some reason the fit between the controller and the trailer wiring plug is not great - it needs a lot of force to connect (even with WD-40), it is hard to get the retainer latch to engage, and it always seems a little insecure - but it does work - no failures in my experience. Maybe thats just a problem with the Cargo Express plug - maybe not. But bottom line - this is a great product, it works great, and it very nicely gets around the awkwardness of a dash or under dash mounted brake controller.
