turned it on near the exhaust of the car so it didn't have a chance to get fresh air on start up, then it gave us false readings. The second time we turned it on in a fresh air environment and it worked perfect.

Does the job! Accurate and portable. I wanted a way to test auto fumes and therefore carbon monoxide from inside my car. I was easily able to do that and the instruction guide was easy to read and use. Got the all clear with thus device! Now if I could just get my husband to stop starting his car in the garage to let it "warm up" we'd be carbon monoxide free :)

This device never worked out of the box. The moment that I turned it on inside my house, it started reading 100-150ppm. That made me nervous, so I turned it off, walked outside and turned it back on. The lowest possible reading that I was able to get outside in the middle of the woods was 100ppm.What's ironic is that the lowest ppm reading that I ever got on this was reading the exhaust from my propane boiler, where it basically dropped to zero. It's almost like the readings on this are completely inverted. In the end, I can't imagine a situation where someone should use this. If your are regularly monitoring CO levels, do yourself a favor and buy a more known and trusted brand.

I tried this portable carbon monoxide detector, but I wouldn’t recommend it over a plug-in model. The concept is great for travel or small spaces, but I found there was too much variation in the readings to feel confident in its accuracy. While it’s compact and easy to move around, the inconsistencies made me question whether it would reliably detect a real issue. For home use, I’d stick with a plug-in detector—it’s more stable and trustworthy. This portable one might be okay as a backup, but it’s not something I’d rely on as my main detector.

This TopTes CT-300 Portable Carbon Monoxide Detector is really a very nice detector. I can't really report on its efficacy, though. because it is a scientific instrument, and I would need access to a scientific lab to make that kind of determination. However, it does appear to operate well. It has a very clear screen and simple controls, and fits nicely into your hand for use. The added hard, zippered, case is a nice touch, since a tool of this type is best stored in a case when not in use. For traveling, a smaller CO detector, one with rechargeable batteries, might be a tad more desirable to some, but this certainly would do the job.

Does it work near my gas water heater? No. Does it work near a candle? No. Does it work near a gas stove? No. Does it work near the exhaust of my car? Only with I stick it in the tail pipe. Here is how it did work. Stick it in. Nothing. Count to 10. Nothing. Start walking away (pissed)....almost to the driver's door, it goes off with reading. And the danger warning sounds off too. This makes me think there is a massive delay. This is my first purchase of CO2 device so I don't know exactly what to expect. Perhaps this is not professional grade. Compared to an average smoke detector, you light a match, and it goes off maybe in 1-2 seconds. Should I return it? The alternative may be to spend much more. Then again, I don't know. Maybe I should just get a smoke and CO2 detector, the round ones, and carry it around with me instead. This is a good looking device. Looks well built. Nice graphics. Looks nice. It just does not work. It does work, but....

I have several Kidde fire/carbon monoxide alarms throughout my house that are also hard wired so that when one goes off, they all do. I’ve had two recent alarms that required me to disconnect all four to stop the alarms. When I reinstalled them later in the evening, they didn’t sound, until they did, a couple of weeks later. Given that I’ve replaced all of them in the last year or two as they reached their 10 year life expectancy, I have no reason to think that one may be defective, but no way to be sure.I immediately ordered this device and it was at my front door when I awoke the next morning. Great job Amazon.I took readings around both the propane hot air furnace in our basement as well as the propane stove in the kitchen. All readings, over several hours, were below the PPM that Kidde says should trigger the alarm.I am waiting until the weather turns colder so that the furnace runs continuously to take additional readings and keeping this meter handy so that I can immediately test if the alarms go off again.I had called the HVAC company to respond, but I don’t think they would have found a cause of the alarm going off. This meter is only a small fraction of the cost of a technician. So I canceled the service call and will use the meter to check periodically and grab it immediately in the event of another alarm.Looks like a quality made product at a great price, with the caveat that I have no way to independently test its accuracy, at least until the alarm goes off again.
