Small enough to fit on our counter and makes decent shaved ice. More of a Kona ice consistency rather than Hawaiian shaved iced. Our toddler has been loving icees lately and this is a healthier alternative that she enjoys just as much!

We love Hawaii and like most people, enjoy the Shave Ice they have there! This summer being so hot, I kept wishing I could have one of those yummy cold treats, but couldn't quite justify flying to the Islands to get one! A local place sells "Shaved Ice" but it is more like snow cones where the ice is crunchy as opposed to flakey with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency I crave! I got a gift card for my birthday and decided to finally buy a Shave Ice Machine. After lots of research on Amazon, I decided on this Crownful Shaved Ice Machine because reviewers said it made that "snow-like" ice I wanted. They were right! The first time I made the treat, I pressed too hard on the "GO" button and the ice was a little chunky. I used a lighter touch (as they suggest in their manual!) and TA DA! SNOW!!!! A perfect powder you'd love to ski on but I'd prefer to eat! Complaints? They only include two silicone cups to freeze the ice in. (A big shave ice would take two if you pack it down before pouring on your syrup). To remedy this, I freeze two, then empty them into my ice bin to keep. Then I reuse the cups to make more. I like to have some on hand ready to go! That's it!! Easy, cheesy, yummy shave ice, just like in Hawaii!! Highly recommend!

I was ready to give this item a 1 star review at first because it barely worked. The directions are easy to follow, it comes with 2 ice block makers that are form fitting to the grinding part of the machine, I froze the ice overnight and had everything ready for the morning, it's been in the 90's here and super humid so we were ready for this treat. I put the ice in the well, I had a bowl underneath to catch everything and I plugged the machine in and i got a sprinkle of shaved ice and nothing else, I could heard the motor going, but nothing was happening, I applied extra pressure, nothing, I had waiting the several minutes after taking the ice out of the freezer to the "best ice consistency" and I was ready to give up, after opening the ice well and seeing that the mechanism works by piercing and gripping the ice from the top and spinning the ice against the blade at the bottom. So I figured with nothing to loose I flipped the ice cube upside down, making it a strangely skewed angle in the machine and tried again, and It filled the bowl in seconds with beautiful fluffy powdered snow. So if you come across an issue with it not shaving the ice, flip it over and try again, you do not need any pressure at all other than pushing the button down, and it fills twice the amount as the original ice mold of light fluffy shaved ice. I used the water flavor squirt bottles to flavor the ice, which was too strong, but my son loved it, next time I'll dilute it with water and try again, or get actual snow cone syrup to use, but we will be enjoying this machine all summer long.

I got this because the kids seemed to enjoy some of the shaved ice cream they have eaten in the past. It comes with two bowls that you will with water, then put the lid on it, and freeze. Once it's frozen, you put the cylindrical looking block of ice in this machine, put the plunger on top and press. One of those blocks of ice makes about one large or two smaller cups so you'll want to pre make a bunch of these ice "cylinders" if you plan to use this at a kids bday party or for more than two kids a day. It's really just a large grinder so make sure to keep away from kids. One thing you'll want to add to your shopping list is all the flavors you plan to pour over it though!

Perfect addition for movie nights, we start with popcorn and end with shaved ice with homemade syrups that are fun to make with the kiddo. It's super easy to use, put the ice in and push the power button. It comes with two silicone molds for making the ice (we make extras and keep them in zip-top bags in the freezer). Its easy to clean and it makes really nice super light and fluffy shaved ice. Overall this little machine worked out better than I though it would. I kind of expected it to be a sort of novelty item but it makes really good shaved ice, the blade is also removable so I think you could resharpen or replace it if you wanted. We have also had a blast buying fruit and making our own syrups with has been an added fun thing about the unit and fun to keep trying different flavors.
