For the price this tape measure is actually pretty sturdy. My tape measures take a beating at my job, so I’m constantly having to buy new ones. This tape measure is perfect for that.

I got this tape measure to add to the four others I use because it's so easy to read. I love the large lime color inch markings on the black background. It's solidly built and has a belt clip on the back although it's so tight, it take effort to open the clip wide enough to attach it. Since I don't use the clip this wasn't a negative for me; however, the one thing I don't like is that it doesn't auto-stop when extended - which is what I prefer. It does have a logically placed button the user to press to lock the measure when it's extended. As for the reach, I took to 10 1/2 feet before I decided that was enough.

My favorite tape measure out on the market these days - Cheaper than a FatMax but just as strong with the reach. Clear numbers that are very legible. Would highly recommend to any craftworker!

The feel of the tape is nice it's small and lightweight which is nice. I like the hook. But mine doesn't have the gritty texture like shown in the pictures. Ive seen other Lufkin tapes that do so no idea why mine does not the model number matches. But this tape is pretty flimsy if not perfectly straight and supported. Even worse if it does collapse and roll over to the side you can't shake it out and correct it, just pull it all back in don't even bother. As soon as it loses the support from the curved shape it's like a sheet of paper and rolls up and folds multiple times. Most other tapes you can shake out and correct after pulling them back in some and will only fold in one place. Haven't used it enough to say if readability is better than the standard yellow tape but it looks nice. The clip seems pretty good imo. Hook extends at the top and bottom sides which is nice. The thing that kills it definitely is the standout. It only really has like 9-10 feet you can get farther if you hold it straight but it'll be curved like a bridge. Even just 3 or 4 feet extended if you have the tape at a 45° it wants to roll out and fold and if it does there's not enough strength in the tape to correct it by tilting it back or shaking it. I'll use it for a bit since I don't have another 16ft(last one got stolen) but I'll probably look for another that has a more rigid blade since I do a lot of measuring in somewhat weird angles

Simply the best. Tough and legible; the black tape sounds like a bad idea until you see it. Best tape measure I've ever had.

This tape measure is advertised as being heavy duty with a 14' stand out, but at anything more than 6 or 7 feet it breaks and bends. When extended even a small distance, it twists in any breeze, making it impossible to get an accurate measurement. It's also very heavy to carry and the belt clip is useless since it will not clip onto a belt of even reasonable thickness, because the spring-steel the clip is made from is far too stiff and the ramp for the belt is far too small. It is very evident that Luskin spent most of their design time on unnecessary additions to the case, and not enough on functionality and usefulness.

So this is a review for the NEW first generation Night Eye. If that sounds confusing that's because it is.This is in fact a first gen as you can see from the photos that it only measures 3". BUT you can also see that that they upgraded the tape and added the second gen protective coating. Which in my opinion makes this the best of both worlds as it is the better size to fit comfortably in your hand but they fixed the biggest problem with it's durability. As you can see I have made the NECESSARY modification to the best clipby bending it out a bit so it actually works instead of being hidden behind the over molded housing. The only thing that would make this a better tape is if they had also upgraded the front hook with the lower profile gen 2 one.
