It does not activate when a large chicken walks in front of it slowly. It will set off when a large animal walks in front. If you are trying to deter deer or dogs it will probably work just fine. worst part is the fittings are plastic, so they break easily. I ordered a second one thinking I got a bad one and the second one is even worse. it came in with a stuck valve. so now I will be sending them both back and finding something better. The first one broke at the hose connector when I was relocating it hoping to get it to work at a better position. Don't waste your money!

Purchased the scarecrow to stop raccoons from digging up new sod. I have found the sensor to have poor peripheral vision and the sensitivity is erratic. I can walk in front of it one time and it will not go off. A moment later you walk in front of it again at the same distance and it activates. I have repeated this experiment numerous times and at different settings. It seems to have a mind of its own.The spray is not very aggressive as it shoots too high and is too fine. The spray only activates for a few seconds and makes a clicking noise. It then waits 8 seconds before the sensor become active again. This cannot be adjusted. This is too short of a spray time and not enough noise to scare the critters away and keep them away. They figure it out pretty quickly and just accept getting wet since it is such a short wimpy spray. In some advertisements they brag the product only uses a cup of water to conserve water. The water isn't wasted. It lands on your grass or garden and isn't waste. This is a very poor attempt at marketing. It also makes the product ineffective. It is very simple to assemble. Other than that it doesn't work very well.

Works as described. I did not receive hose attachment point as pictured and mentioned in the listing. I bought that part from a local store.

This product may work in very limited cases, but not against rabbits. If you have a large flat lawn, and can afford enough of these to cover the whole area, it might detect rabbits. However, if there are bushes or tall grass anywhere, this creates a shadow for the sensors, and within a few hours, rabbits here had learned to avoid triggering the thing. They also learned what areas weren't covered at all. Getting complete coverage of anything but a big regularly-shaped lawn is difficult, especially if you want to avoid triggering the spray any time you walk by. In addition, sensors aren't reliable: many false-alarm sprays (wind, maybe), and many times a rabbit (or several) was clearly within the sensor field of 'vision' and the spray didn't trigger. System requires hoses left lying everywhere, and water on 24/7 with significant leakage at hose attachments. Because there is no free-rotating screw fitting, hoses have to be attached before pushing the spike into the ground, making it awkward. The 30-second spray makes a limited arc, less than 180 degrees, which the rabbits have come to count on.I won't say these are worthless, since they might work for larger animals if you have a completely conventional lawn-focused garden, but the hose clutter, leakage, and the fact that animals quickly learn the noise is harmless all make me doubt whether the product would scare any species for long. I will be returning these - at $50+ a pop, they're an expensive annoyance.

I own several of the prior models to this sprinkler unit and have used them for years with great success. I live in an area where the deer graze on flowerbeds as a salad bar and these sprinklers have allowed me to have a beautiful landscaped yard and garden. I needed to expand and get more units and actually selected the "order again" option. I received the units and immediately noticed a difference in design as well as quality. I assume this is the replacement for the older models. With that assumption, I will say that this unit is not the same as it's earlier model. The sprayer is weak and doesn't shoot as far, nor does it make as much noise as the previous model. I question longevity as well. The design does not seem as sturdy, nor do the materials match the quality of my others. Although I will keep the units, I will say that I'm very disappointed with the latest models.

This product really works! This is the 6th. Scarecrow that I have purchased to protect our flowers from deer. There are a few things that you should be careful about when installing the Scarecrows. First, be sure that you do no overtighten any connection and use tape to insure a tight fit. Be sure to replace the batteries each year or when they fail to operate properly. I use a "master turn off" to control all of the Scarecrows when we are working in the gardens. Simply use a hose turn-off just before the first Scarecrow and you will not have to worry about the initial shock of water hitting you in the face when you enter the garden. Be sure to take them in for winter and blow the water lines to prevent freezing...I use a hose plug to seal the line after blowing it out. I do not use the special decals that are included with the Scarecrows...I suppose that they wold scare other critters away but I think that they look stupid.
