The strings that came with this kit are absolute garbage. They are the consistency of knitting yard. Very easily broken. I don’t see this lasting putting the top up and down more thna 5 times. Also the strings do not have the metal clamps as pictured. This couldn’t have been made any cheaper. The plate seems ok at best.I’m going to find replacement strings to replace this. Also, zero instructions on how to install. Had to watch a YouTube video to install it.

A printed instructions would be helpful. It works, but took way too long to figure it out. The video passes through too fast, and when you pause it, you can't see it. My wife figured out to take screenshots as it played.

I have a 2001 BMW 325 Ci which is babied as much as possible without having to take to the painful car dealer. The lower insides of the convertible top had their inner plastic “bat wings” break and fall away, which left two flappy corners very unsightly, although it functioned properly. When I made the decision to sell the car, I knew this detail needed to be fixed. I purchased these after watching many videos on how to repair them, and was skeptical as to whether I could really pull it off. I am a 59 year old woman, and if I can do it, so can you! The top interior looks as good as new. I wish I had a picture, but the car sold to the first person who came to look at it. The trick to getting to the screws is lifting the top so both the back and front are elevated off the body of the car, which means it’s almost all the way open with the rear storage flap lifted. You will then see you can access the screws easily with a short torx screw driver.

Have to play with opening/closing top in order to access that small screw with spring tensioner, but size is correct. Used 3M double sided heavy duty tape, did not trust the one installed.

I found a few good Youtube videos to help me replace my “bat wings” on my convertible top. Routing the strings through the cross bars and tightening the little screws was quite a task. I used some superglue to help hold the fabric on and everything seems to be working fine. Was a very cheap DIY fix compared to taking it somewhere.

It fits nicely without problems, used double sided tape to secure flaps, I’d made sure rope was routed properly. But it broke off rope the first convertible open and close.

After installing I noticed it was much tighter/didn't fit the same way as the other side and it seemed like it would brake if I fully raised the top. I made sure I had installed it correctly and matched the other side and eventually noticed the string is not as long as oem. At first I thought the spring just needed to stretch but after comparing the one I removed to this one I realized it was about an inch too short.I ended up using one of the old brackets and a zip tie to extend where the spring attaches which actually worked very well since I could tighten the zip tie to the right length/tension.The other problem was the top string where a screw goes through the loop at the end of the string. On the side I needed to replace the loop was too small to get the screw through but the other side which I didn't need seemed fine. I was able to get another zip tie through there instead. With the use of zip ties and some headliner adhesive the top looks great now, but properly sized string would have saved a lot of headache. I'd try a different brand.

Overall fit is great however due to the crimps installed at factory I elected to discard crimps and utilize existing cabling as it made the install much simpler. My cables were in fine condition it was the plastic flaps that had busted.
