If I could give 0 stars I would! This is my first time using this and while it looks like cast iron, it most definitely is not!! It snapped! Complete waste of money!Plus it wouldn't actually thin them out!

I have not owned other tortilla presses so I don't have a frame of reference. I have not had any issues with paint flaking off but I've only used it a handful of times. Will update as necessary.

This is our second tortilla press—we wore out the first one. My husband grew up in Texas and had a neighbor who always made fresh tortillas, so he is a bit of a tortilla snob. I moved him to my hometown in sunny South Florida, and he had to settle for store-bought tortillas when the kids wanted fajitas or tacos. Needless to say, he got tired of that very quickly. So, he got a tortilla press and started making his own, and now the kids won’t eat anything but the ones he makes. His first press was smaller and not cast iron, so it didn’t last long. We got this one, and so far, he is liking it. It is very heavy-duty, solid, and easy to use. He can get the tortillas very flat and even with this press. It doesn’t look like as much of a chore to make them as it did with the smaller one he had. My husband is very particular about the care of any of our cast iron items, so we haven’t had any issues with paint peeling or discoloration. Overall, the press is heavy-duty cast iron as advertised, and it does the job it was intended to do, so we are happy with it.

What I dislike the most about this product is that it is advertised as being 100% cast iron, but it is very clearly painted to look like cast iron. While it is heavy as one would expect from a cast iron product, there is no reason to paint it which makes me very suspicious. The paint job is not good and there were several chips upon arrival. After using it one time, I got a lot of paint all over the counter while making fry bread, so there is a safety concern about the paint getting in the food. The tortilla press does work well enough and is much more convenient than rolling by hand. It is relatively easy to clean up after use as well, but it does take up a good amount of space in the pantry when stored.

Wow works great, brings home the great fresh flavor of homemade tortillas. So far no problems I expect this will last a lifetime. We recommend it

I read the other review and thought, well I'll buy the black one. No one would paint the black cast iron black. However, sadly, when it came there was already chipped paint all over it. I do believe the company can fix this by using powder coating with proper conditions, but also just leave it cast iron and it would be fine. Disclaimer: I didn't even put it all the way together since I could already see the paint chipped. Other than that, it appears to be a fully functional press. I don't know, I might try it at some point and update. After seeing LastWeekTonight on PFAS it has me nervous since I'm not sure what it is made of. I can't give it a 1 because I have not tried to press a tortilla on it due to the chipping. It seems to be a decent product that was the victim of paint/bad powder coating.
