These are not full on cheapies....three screws, solid and they work. Cheaper by far than those available by the major clarinet manufacturers.

This broke within a month of installing it on my daughter's clarinet. When I examined the break, it was obvious the metals used were less than good quality, the fracture was brittle and crumbly, not sure what the alloy was but there must have been impurities in it. There isn't a lot of pressure being applied to the thumb rest by a sixth grader.

Yes, I recommend this, but I only give it 4 stars. Let me explain.I used to play clarinet over 20 years ago in high school. In my senior year, I began using a BG neck strap. Back then, the BG neck strap came with a connecting rod that I can describe best as a reverse lyre with three notches to hook your strap. I can't find that thing anywhere. (I bet someone got injured using it or BG thought using leather tabs would be cheaper.)I am now getting back to playing the clarinet and I have a Ridenour Lyrique Aurea Bb clarinet with gold posts and silver plated keys. However, while I have a new BG neck strap, I'm not a fan of the leather tabs they give for hooking the neck strap to the clarinet.I saw this thumb rest and for the price, it was certainly worth it especially since it seemed to mirror the same thumb rest I already have. So you will see with the pics of what I already had, making the comparison, and attempting to install the mounting plate it came with. It didn't fit, but that's okay. You could tell with one of the pictures that the holes were not aligned with the same plate. Not a problem and this is expected just because of machining tolerances, etc. I didn't really buy it for that anyway and I'm not going to jeopardize the original holes to install this thumb rest mounting plate.Note: If your thumb rest mounting plate is different (and I suspect most will be), take your clarinet to a trained technician for installation. I did that on my old Buffet R-13 that I had back in high school and it just isn't worth it trying to do it yourself. Let a tech do it.Anyway, I put the original mounting plate back on and put on the new thumb rest. You'll notice that I put my original adjusting screw back on. Yes, the one that came with it also fit, but which would YOU choose - gold or silver? I'll pick the gold. Btw, the silver plating of the thumb rest DOES match my other keys. Then I attempted to hook my neck strap. At the angle it came at... it didn't hook. Very difficult to hook the neck strap through. I get my tools out and I bend the thumb rest hook point further... and now it works.Depending on the adjusted position, you may have trouble fitting it in your case. I had mine all the way at the top... so the hook loop was above the spot for the thumb rest in the case. I'm still figuring out my optimal position and so I lowered it, but if you have it too high, it may affect how it sits in your case.Yes, I do recommend it. Two points that would've made this a 5-star review:1) The neck strap hole needs to be angled further down.2) There is NO CUSHION at all (which was expected from the pictures). I already have a Ridenour Thumb Saddle so it's fine for me, but it would've been nice if there was some felt or rubber on the bottom of it.For what it is and what I needed it for, get it.

Unlike at least one competing offering, this one includes the attachment ring for a neck strap, as seen in the picture.

Product is easy to install on clarinet.Holds neck strap hook pretty well. The hole (for strap hook) could be slightly larger and positioned at 90 degrees from where it is now. That would be a more secure connection.Good value for a very reasonable price. Better product than several others I’ve tried.
