I bought a lot of cold steel tomahawks before and it’s been like half a decade since I bought one so I decided to try out the Norse hawk recently. I got it today on Sunday February 2, 2025 and was expecting to modify the tomahawk as I have done with my other tomahawks from cold steel. However out of the box it actually turned out really good. What amazes me is how straight the hickory handle is! All the tomahawk handles I got before would have a slight curve to it so I have to straighten the handle with a bit of steam as steaming the handle long enough does actually make the wood pliable enough to bend it straight. The only modifications I have to do is ground the eye of the tomahawk to make the friction fit of the tomahawk head more better as sharp edges ruins the handle as well as sharpen the edge. What also surprises me is that the handle is not that badly damaged. I was expecting to carve out the bits of wood that would be shaved off from the rough fitting of the tomahawk head but it didn’t turn out that way at all and the stop pin was not set in so deep and basically left very minimal damage to the handle. Don’t use the stop pin that comes with the tomahawk. The head is meant to be fitted on the handle with friction and using the stop pin causes damage to the handle as the shock from tomahawk use will cause the tomahawk head to move resulting in the stop pin damaging the handle. Overall I am completely satisfied with the tomahawk and I feel like the new owners of cold steel have done something right on some things especially the tomahawk I got. I only got one tomahawk so far after the cold steel buy out but I feel like I would buy more products from the tomahawk line in the future as I feel that my chances of getting a good tomahawk is now greater than before. I really hope this level of quality is standard with the new cold steel company rather than me getting lucky with this one.

I have a lot of acreage in thick piney woods of northern Louisiana. Spend a lot of time wrestling with brush, bramble and the like. This makes an excellent companion. Think like a machete but more adept at cutting smaller trees and thicker brush branches and bases than a machete. It's light and effective. The bit on this is wider and allows for the various ways you may miss high or low when aiming for a limb or small tree. It's handy and easy to carry out through the woods and I highly recommend as a functional tool for this type of effort

Value for price, came semi sharp, as expected, but a sharpening stone and ten minutes later one very sharp edge. The handles grain is almost perfect, off by maybe 10 degrees. Unlike other reviews my handle was not not overly pressed in or Ill fitted. Took the set screw out and tapped the handle on my workbench and the head slid right down. Sanded the finish off the handle and restained it a darker color then used boiled linseed oil to protect it. Gave it a corded leather wrap handle and a paracord shaft protector under the head. The head paint was stripped off and then cold blued, which looks better, IMHO. Threw away the set screw, as it is not needed on a tomahawk, it is supposed to be a friction fit, so you can take the head off easily. Now it is a fully functional camp tool. It works great for clearing small brush from campsite, splitting wood and any other camping chores.

This axe has great metal, holds and edge and has a nice balance to it. Because of the length of the handle, you get more cutting power even than shorter hatchets that weigh twice as much.I like the curve of the blade because it gives you extra inches of edge. This is important when you are backpacking and care about weight and may not have a lot of sharpening tools on you. A shorter edge has less real estate and thus gets duller faster. With a longer edge, you have the room to spread the impacts around the blade and slow the dulling process.Splitting small logs isn't as easy with this, but it can be done and luckily I don't usually need to do much of that with it.Construction is solid. I'm not crazy about the color of the finish of the handle but that doesn't factor in much.

Love this hawk! Throws great and I really enjoyed customizing mine.Update.Just ordered three more of these and this time Inthrew them before modifying. I gotta say I like the longer handle (trimmed my first one 3 inches). Throws great. I also didn’t touch the edge or the set screw. No issues and the head has not loosened. The head does come loose on the one I modified. I’m okay with it because I use it for camping as well. When throwing it’s a PITA.The edge was good as was the finish. The head to handle fit looks really good.Maybe CS is stepping up their game a bit. Don’t think I’m gonna touch the three I just received. Just throw them. Caught mine for 20 bucks a piece. What a steal.

So while they were cheap, my biggest issue was that both of them arrived and the blades were very loose and falling off the handle. That being said if you just take a tool and tighten down it fixed that. Another issue however was they screws also tend to dig into the wood easily so they can still slip easily. That being said tightening the blade heads as well as applying a strong adhesive helps them stand up to abuse. That being said they're great for practice and for the amount of money you pay, can't be beat.

This is an excellent tomahawk. It is light, well constructed, and low priced. The bill is a novel design, looking more like a medieval weapon than a traditional tomahawk, but functions much the same. Like other Cold Steel hawks, it is not particularly sharp, the head is painted black and is attached to the handle with a set screw. If you like the look, then go ahead and get this hawk and enjoy!

Great quality handle, great quality head. Nice steel, takes and holds an edge well. Durable wood.Ended up cutting about 4 inches off the handle and adding friction tape. The finish was a bit slick for personal preference, and the length a bit too long. The only major thing to this is that the handle isnt perfectly fitted to the head. It's close enough that the head wont come off, but a screw is in the head to keep it from moving. Plan on removing the screw, adding a wedge, and fitting it perfectly.Worth every penny, but some minor work makes it from good to perfect.

Saw the axe on Amazon and I ordered one to see the quality after reading the reviews.some customer reviews mentioned problems with fit of the head. Well it's a cheap axe just what do you know? I think I sent 10 minutes fitting the axe head. it has a set screw on the back of the head. Remove the screw and throw it away, it's not needed.sand the handle to fit.if you need help,go online to see how.The axe head is not very sharp but it is hard enough to sharpen with a Mill smooth file and hold a good edge. After finishing up the axe I found it throws very nicely.I'll make this short, I bought six more. Had them fitted up in no time. I used the first axe to fit up outher six axes.layed on a leather wrap to the handle,my hands are just large and the handle is a bit Small for me.Very worth the money.
