This is an economically priced set of 12 pen kits that makes what I would call a Gatsby style pen. I have purchased multiple sets and successfully made 48 pens. I am very happy with them. Only reasons for not giving 5 stars are: 1.) There are no instructions included. It is assumed that the purchaser can figure out how to make the pens. I had to measure the fitments and tubes with a caliper to determine the drill size for the blanks and the bushing sizes for turning the pen. 2.) The brass tubes have thinner walls than I am used to. A drop of CA glue was needed to keep some from having a loose fit when the pens were assembled. 3.) To get the blank to the right diameter for the tip and cap was tricky. It will be very thin because the diameter of the tube vs. the diameter one must turn the blank down to are quite close. I experienced tear outs and cracks working with plastic blanks until I learned to keep it thicker and make a curve on the ends of the blanks to get the fit. Wood blanks were easier to do. The resulting pens look very nice and overall I have been happy with these kits. In the included photo is one wooden pen and one blue acrylic pen.

I do not fault the quality of the product. The problem is that there are no instructions for blank preparation (how long do I make the blank? The tube is about an 1/8 too short), bushing size for correct diameter, or anything. I used the bushings for Penn State's Gatsby, which worked fine on the top, but I cut to the length of the tube which make the blank about 1/8 short. You might try making a horn bushing to take up the space on the bottom. I don't know what to tell you except to avoid this product and buy Penn State products.

The kits look great! The support... well there is none. Tool trial and error and online videos to find the correct bushings to use and assembly instructions.

Pen seems solid, but you have to creat your own bushings

These look like they would be great pens, but MY 12 pens came with the cap and clip already pressed into the brass barrel tube. Can't unscrew the tube. Writing this review before trying to punch out the cap and clip. Could turn a wood blank sans brass tube but the wall would only be a few hundredth inches at the ends if I want the wood to be flush on the pen. I'll update if I can make such a blank without breaking it. Or if I can punch the clip out of the bass tube without marring it to heck.Obviously another craft item picked up and optimized for packaging without knowing why kits have separated parts.UPDATE- a solid 5 star. Turns out it's very easy, even planned, for you to punch the cap off with a 25/64" punch. Blank through hole is 27/64". You turn the blank with the punched out brass tube glued in, like any other pen kit. These make a very attractive pen. Obviously I was obviously wrong. I'll buy these again.
