I had 2 pen presses. 1 is mounted to the wall (and the one I use the most), and one is a combination press and dissassembly unit. The one on the wall literally broke its casting, which shouldn't be possible just putting a pen together. The combo one doesn't really lend itself to mounting on the wall, plus it is more complicated and time-consuming to use.Instead of getting the same model as the one that broke I decided to look around. This one is a *little* more expensive, but I'd say it is worth 10 times more than the one I replaced. This one is WAY more sturdy. The soft foot is not only easily replaceable, but it comes with a spare. Instead of having a bunch of plastic blocks to keep track of (like on the old one) and that are always getting dropped behind the lathe, this one just has metal blocks that flip aside. It is nearly instantaneous to change the height up and down, and the blocks are incredibly solid. It has a drawer to keep the extra foot (or whatever else) in. It works extremely well when mounted to the wall, and has a removable spacer to allow the handle to swing all the way up for that purpose. In conclusion, I haven't seen a better-designed nor better-constructed pen press out there. It isn't much more than a cheap one, and it is literally 10 times better. I would highly recommend it over any other I've seen or used.(I edited this, there was one thing I wish was better on it in my original review. Since I have it mounted to the wall I wished the handle went all the way up and out of the way. It turns out there is a spacer you can remove made just for that. So now I'm going to say that it out absolutely perfect and I couldn't find anything to change on it.)

Nice and efficent way to assemble pens. Set up is great with the spacing blocks based on length of what your pressing together.

Produced my first pen as a birthday gift. Bought this to put it together. Milescraft makes some really great products, and this pen press did not disappoint!

Press itself works great unfortunately the bolts that hold the handle on did not come with it. Currently trying to get hold of company to see if they cost extra.

Easy to use. Design is self explanatory. Just getting into woodturning and this was one of my first purchases to go with my lathe setup.

I LOVE this product! Makes assembling pens a breeze! My old one you had to open with a wheel, then put the pen in and crank the wheel. Eventually you had to tighten the hand wheel. This product is worth the investment. Now i look forward to assembling pens

I'm new to pen making and the person helping me learn to make pens saw this one and wished he had purchased it rather than the one he has. It is easy to adjust to different pen sizes and parts with the flip stops, the pen tip centering stop makes it easy to align the pen pieces and pushing the pen pieces together is easily done as well as smoothly without significant effort. The only down side for me as a new learner is it doesn't appear to allow easy disassembly if I make an error putting pieces together.

So, upon contacting Milescraft directly they quickly replaced the Turner's Press at no charge. They even sent me their new model, the 4701 (will leave review there). Milescraft told me the stock photo Amazon uses for the 4700 is an old photo and not correct and that they are no longer making that model.I increased the rating for 5 stars because of the great customer servica, quick shipping, model upgrade, and no additional charges. The new pen press works without damaging anything. See below for old review if desired.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The tool is a good one for assembling pens. It makes it quite easy honestly. The problem is the one I received leaves scratch marks in every pen tip. My attached photo shows a black end that the pen tip goes into that is actually metal, the stock photo on amazon shows a white, hard plastic/acrylic tip. That metal end is scratching the softer metals of the pens. In addition, the press came missing one of the handle bolts. Fortunately I had one that fit in the mess of bolts/nuts floating in my garage.I cannot give this tool a higher than 1 star because it is damaging the pen tips. It is a great tool but maybe I just got a bad one....

I've been pressing my turned pens using a vice since I started the hobby, and while a vice works, it's not a patch on the ease of use this Turners Press exhibits. Construction looks to be solid as a rock, and the system of flipping over aluminum spacers to allow for longer or indeed shorter pens to be assembled is excellent. Had one pen on the go and ready to press when it arrived, and honestly, I know it's a bit of an outlay, but this is going to be worth every penny in terms of ease of use and finished result. I've had one or two pens slip on me using a bench vice, and cracked the pen cases, but this looks like it presses smoothly and flush. Had to order from the USA as couldn't find one in the UK. Delivery well within the specified time period. Excellent all round!

When I started making pens recently I was looking for the best way to press the components together. People made homemade devices, there were various designs, I saw one guy on You Tube showing how he used a 1 ton arbor press. I've seen ways of using your drill press, your lathe and other inventions to save a bit of money. If you have a device that works for you that's great. But if you are looking for the slickest smoothest, easiest set up that won't ruin your pens then get this pen press. The greatest thing about this press is the flip up aluminum spacers allowing you to adjust the travel without messing with screws or using plastic blocks that could get lost. Just flip the spacers over that you need and press your pen. There is a metal side with a screw that allows for micro adjustments and the main side with a rubber coating with a hole for pine tips and nibs. It just makes lining the pen up and getting a good press every time. I'm so glad I bought this and didn't mess with making my own or using a machine that wasn't made for pen pressing. This pen press is way better than the PSI press for only $10 more. One trick to help with storage is to replace the nut an bolt in the handle with some small jig nobs to make it simple to fold up and store.A good pen press is a must for quality pen making.
