Chose the 1/4" flattening bit flatten because I'm only running it on my small handheld router along with a home built router sled. The cuts are super clean, no burn marks or rough edges, i guess the golden coating really helps, stays sharp and doesn’t overheat. I’ve put it through quite a lot already, and it’s holding up way better than the amana one. honestly didn’t expect this level of quality for the price. If you’re looking for a solid flattening bit that just gets the job done, this is the one.And if I havent updated this review, that means the cutter's still going strong

I use this on my router sled. It works every bit as good as I hoped it would.

The bit is as advertised and appears to be good quality; there are no apparent manufacturing defects and the machining looks clean. The carbide cutters are sharp. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but as others have pointed out, it’s a pretty large and heavy bit. You will need a powerful router, and you’ll want to make sure the speed is set appropriately.

This planer bit is impressive. First - It will allow you to use your router to take small cuts of wood per pass. Taking care to build a large flattening jig consisting of two rails and a bridge to support your router will result in a long level plank. My Walnut planks are 30"+ wide and (10 quarter) 2-1/2" thick. The longest length is 124". This was the capacity of the bandsaw mill. This bit is super sharp. If you aren't overly aggressive with it you control the heat which destroys sharp edges.I mounted this bit in my drill motor to check the bit's balance. (say that fast 10 times) It is impressive. There is no vibration or wobbling in a hand held drill motor. The square cutters are great. If one edge is damaged then take out the retaining screw and rotate the cutter 90 degrees. Problem solved with a new edge. I don't know what the cost of the cutters is but with good care, this planer bit will serve you well for a long time.Be careful when selecting a cutting depth. I usually stick to 1/16" per pass. This way the cutter does not "chew the wood". Do not push too aggressively with your router. Let the bit do the work. Depending on the species of wood, you may have to finish with a sander. If there are any swirl marks left behind then sanding is the way to eliminate them. I used either a Bosch Belt Sander or a straight line Festool Sander. When planing near cross grain where there are several changes of grain direction, slow your feed rate. "Tearout" is possible with any power tool. When working with live edge lumber always try to feed the tool into the board and not into the edge. This is an aggressive tool that can get you in trouble quickly. Patience is desirable. Experience will tell you how deep and how fast to cut.Just like mowing your lawn, planing a wide board can become very boring very quickly. So plan to take a while. Just remember that the end result is beauty. This bit gives excellent results. It is a good product.

This is a useful bit, but it really concerns me that the max speed is not shown anywhere - not on the case and not on the bit. This is very large and heavy for a normal router and you can easily create a real hazard by running it too fast or without securing your router carefully. The machining seems ok - the one I got had a sloppily finished center section. The good news is that the inserts are a common size - 12mm x 12mm x 2.2mm and 35 degrees. The front of the bit seems to be square with the shank, so it works like a zero-rake cutter.
